There was a time when the name 'French fries' was considered inappropriate and 'freedom fries' became the replacement nomenclature -- and many on FR applauded.

As with most of political correctness, it depends on whose ox is being gored.

When France refused U.S. overflight in French airspace in 2003 during the Iraq war, the Senate dining room changed “french fries” on the menu to “freedom fries”.

Food Lion changed their French Vanilla ice cream to Freedom Vanilla with a patriotic box.

Where I was deployed it was Freedom Fries all the way. Oh, and our usual dessert was Klondike Bars.
