Boris Johnson tries to court Biden as Number 10 falls off Trump train

Boris Johnson is reportedly trying to woo US Presidential candidate Joe Biden with Downing Street increasingly convinced that Donald Trump will not be re-elected.

Johnson has been shown private polling that shows Biden is on track for a landslide victory, spurring him to try to build ties with the former Vice President. The Sunday Times reports that a foreign secretary Dominic Raab and the UK’s ambassador to the US Dame Karen Pierce have been conducting backroom talks with close Biden allies.

A senior Tory source told the Times: “They’re writing off Trump in Number 10 now.”

Downing Street is worried about how Johnson will be received by Biden if he becomes President and about how this relationship could affect UK-US trade negotiations.

When I read stories like this I am horror struck.

My first thought is that they must know something that the rest of us FREEPER’s don't know. Like their Intelligence agencies have carefully evaluated all the polling data and concluded that the data we see that shows Trump winning is wrong.

My second thought is that the people feeding Oxford graduate Johnson are just deep state folks who gathered garbage from the New York Times.

I’d be a little nervous of having fallen off the Trump train if the train rides for another for years with Conductor Trump.

Maybe Boris is hoping for a Biden win to protect some of the scallywags who helped in the coup.

Do you really think the British government knows more about how you plan to vote than you do? Secondly, do you think they understand other Americans’ motivations better than the average American? They’re just following “conventional wisdom” regarding polls, but I will bet they don’t have a clue about the unusual dynamics occurring in 2020, such as likely unprecedented support for Trump among black Americans, or the incredible support now becoming apparent among Hispanics. Nor are they likely considering the over two million Americans who have become new gun owners as a response to the leftist violence. These are folks who are unlikely to vote for someone who will turn around and take away the weapons they just purchased to protect themselves. And then there are the hints of greater democrat crossover voting for Trump than in 2016, including the Walk Away movement. Heck, we’ve even got Leo 2.0, something I never would have imagined possible.

If the Brits are wrong about this, and I believe they are, then they’d better brace for the toughest negotiation of their lives when it comes time to negotiate a new bilateral trade deal with Trump.

If the story is true, they are following the same news everyone else is. But I’m not sure why they’d be openly courting Biden now when there is a three month period after the election where the current President is still in power. Far safer to court one way or the other after the election when you know the outcome. That makes me suspect this is bull, but who knows.
