Protected from who? Pro police rallies aren’t usually violent unless antifag trouble makers show up.
TV stations often hire security to look out for their vans, crews, assets, and pretty little reporters. This is not uncommon in larger cities.
My wife was a reporter for 25 years. There are a lot of nutcases out there who think they “know you” because they hear your voice or see you on TV. I don’t know how she put up with the weirdos.
