WSB radio just announced Trump will not participate in the virtual debate next week. That's all I have so far.

Edited to add:

Pres Trump: "I'm not going to waste my time on a virtual debate." Fox Business interview with Maria Bartiromo

Re: 16 - I think the issue is that debate moderators have explicit bias (and I am not talking about being a registered Republican or Democrat).

Some formats can greater attenuate that bias and also the amount of control that a moderator exerts. Virtual is just such a format.

My concern has always been why did the Trump campaign agree to the debate moderators in the first place.

Anyways, given President Trump will not participate in a virtual debate, it’s now up to him to participate in a media event that provides as much exposure as possible.

This is a debate format to which he agreed, do you think the fact that it goes virtual changes the odds against him that much?
...
Gee whiz, to not understand pdjt by now rakes a concerted effort to not want to.

You are not thinking. Use your head.
Why the heck would Trump do a virtual debate with a never Trumper "moderator" who can cut off his mic and with Slow Joe being fed answers?

Averaging bad polls is silly

Good. It’s a no brainer. If he agrees to a virtual debate he’s basically endorsing mail in ballots.

right?

people here need to get it through their heads.

I am no fan of town hall debates, especially of a larger than life candidate like Trump in a game in which the candidates must pander to the questioners and appear compassionate and likable. The candidate must appear to suffer fools gladly.

I do not think it will increase conservative turnout to boycott the debate, I was simply replying to an assertion that conservatives will love this typical Trump action. Turnout, given Trump's position as far as we know it from Real Clear Politics average of polls, is vital.

Perhaps Trump has a silver bullet up his sleeve, perhaps the soon to be released documents damning Hillary Clinton, Obama, Biden and the rest of them. Maybe he intends to run on that?

Does anyone really think the debate format would have been changed if Harris had not turned in such a rotten performance last night? Of course this was probably the plan after the first debate to keep Biden in a controlled setting and avoid any major gaffes. The Deep State had to change the narrative today and predictably the media is talking about Trump “backing” out of the next debate.

Yeah exactly. Trump wants to do the originally agreed upon debate format. BIDEN is the one backing out, insisting it be virtual. If Biden sticks to this position and cancels the debate format as originally agreed upon, then he is the one backing out is Biden not Trump!

Which would make the recently posted title a total fraud. “TRUMP WON’T PARTICIPATE IN NEXT DEBATE”. It’s really not clear to me that the debate commission has already changed the format, or if it is just a proposal. I’m skeptical they have the right to make a unilateral last minute change like this without agreement of both parties...

Actually the commission does not need approval from either of the candidates to change the rules. They can act unilaterally and the candidates can either accept or boycott the debate.

Those documents have already been released. Pence referred to them last night in a brilliant response to an abiding by the election results question.

Yikes.

See post 30 BIDEN is the one who said he would not debate in person and back out of the agreed upon format. The debate commission changed it w/o consulting with Team Trump. Potus wants to debate the original format.

You are correct, but you know how this goes.
The media will portray Trump as the one who backed out in any case.

He just needs to ignore it and schedule a huge rally for the exact scheduled time of the virtual debate.

You might be onto something, Trump might have concluded that these debate formats with unfair moderators will cost him rather than reward him and this change of format is the perfect opportunity to cancel out.

I do agree with you that it is incumbent upon him now to seek another effective media format, especially giving his position With the Real Clear Politics average of polls.

I think it is worth noting that there are some straws in the wind that his polls have picked up lately, that would be nice but we have to wait and see

Actually the commission does not need approval from either of the candidates to change the rules. They can act unilaterally and the candidates can either accept or boycott the debate.

And they went ahead and made a unilateral decision which gives Biden exactly what he wanted and which gives Trump absolutely nothing. Blatant favoritism. Just as with their choices of moderators.

Exactly.I swear if POTUS can win a second term it will be a miracle with out the media just attack attack attack.

The debate commission HAS changed the format. And without consulting Trump’s campaign. No more debates. We don’t need it. I don’t know why Trump even agreed to do any debates at all with hard core Trump hating “moderators” like Chris Wallace. Trump should do a huge rally instead.

I think he intends to run on this:

Joe and/or his brain are not long for this world.
Elect Joe and Kamala will be your POTUS within a year.

That needs to get out there in ads in heavy rotation.
