He must have uncovered something to make Barr and Durham look bad!
The big question is: what firm did he go to? It hasn’t been mentioned. Somebody made him an offer he ‘couldn’t refuse’?
Wow. Disappointing.
Yes, this is unusual. But being unusual means bupkis unless there is any other evidence to examine.
Are there any other relevant facts?
Looks like Sofer is one of Barr’s longtime, insider coverup artists:
Last Wednesday was still "last month". There's a difference between "last month" and "a month ago". So "abrupt" is an appropriate descriptor.
"It would be highly unusual for a U.S. attorney to resign in the middle of a very important aspect of his investigative responsibilities as assigned by the Attorney General.
Something about this is not passing the sniff test at all
"
This guy was appointed in 2012 to the US Attorney position.
“This Fridayeight years to the day after I first joined the Department of Justice...”
There is no reason to resign unless he and his boss can’t resolve their differences about pursuing the investigation. If he can’t convince AG Barr to accept his investigative conclusions then I suspect he was either incompetent or partisan because I trust William Barr’s dedication to honest justice. Good riddance.
Last month I accepted an offer for a position in the private sector...
Officials in the Obama administration have acknowledged that they moved to unmask some Americans in intelligence reports, but insisted that their reasons were legitimate. Those officials include Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice, former ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power and former deputy national security adviser Benjamin Rhodes.
Let me guess who his new bosses are.
Maybe that private sector job is with Perkins Coie. Seems like a reverse buyout

Had a horse head in his bed...
Surely there is an AUSA assigned to the case and continues the investigation. The case should not live or dies according the USA staying or leaving. The AUSA’s always do the heavy lifting and they are career attorneys. If this was in WDC, I would worry. But a Texas DOJ office should be OK. Or am I dreaming???
Hmmmm... no likee!
Probably a caught leaker.
Bad actor.
He was charged with investigating the unmaskings and like Huber, did nothing.
My money says he was told to resign or be fired.
