Senator Cruz says Chief Justice John Roberts 'despises Donald Trump'

"I think it is personal," the Texas senator said about Justice John Roberts' motivation to turn away from the conservative movement with his court decisions

Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz says Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts "despises Donald Trump," which accounts for a number of the decisions he had made from the top seat on the high court in recent years.

In an appearance on David Brody's recently launched show "The Water Cooler," Senator Cruz, an attorney and author of the new book "One Vote Away: How a Single Supreme Court Seat Can Change History," told the host that "John Roberts has become the new Sandra Day O'Connor."

Cruz said he agrees with Vice President Mike Pence, who in an interview last month, told David Brody that Justice Roberts has been a "disappointment to conservatives."

However, Cruz believes that part of Roberts' pivot away from conservative-minded jurisprudence is motivated by personal hatred toward the president. "I think it is personal," said the senator.

"It is difficult to come up with two human beings more antithetical than John Roberts and Donald Trump, in every respect," he continued.

In addition to the release of his new book, the Senator is presently gearing up to begin the Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings of conservative Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

He confirmed on "The Water Cooler" that believes, despite the challenges posed by coronavirus, that the committee has the capacity to move forward in a timely manner with the judge's hearing. Cruz also mentioned that Barrett, in a socially distanced form, met with lawmakers in the Mansfield room at the Capitol last week to prepare for the process.

That is so true. You would think that a man such as himself, in such a position, would be a bit better than that.

Yes, Justice Thomas deserves respect and should hold that position.

If for nothing else than the treatment he got during the hearings.

Did Trump know that when he nominated him?

I still hope he gets terminal jock itch.

Well Smoking Joe, I agree with you.

And, good point regarding how Roberts distinguished himself as a jerk long before Trump came on the scene.

So, explain why Roberts sold conservatives down the river when Obama was President. Trump was not even in the picture then.

He’s got the same TDS as infects many swamp creatures. Trump is a floodlight on the dark side of DC politics, and the creatures of darkness do not like it.

Trump can have that effect on people.

They either love him or hate him, no in between.

Perhaps you should see your doctor; Trump didn’t nominate Roberts to anything, Roberts is a Bush appointee.

There needs to be some sort of a recall process for cases like this.

well if true, it lowers my already low opinion of the bush appointed, obamacare savior to zero as a judge. because the prime requirement for any judge in any position or capacity, the USSC notwithstanding, is impartiality.

Thanks again, President Bush. You have screwed the nation in multiple ways. What do you really care about? Honestly? Do you have a core? Does that core involve ANY understanding of the average American? You were a hero to many, and they defended you against a left who literally characterized you as a monkey/chimpanzee. You sold those people out.

I guess your reward is that you get hugs from Michele Obama and can delude yourself into thinking that you are an amazingly forward thinking human being - beyond partisanship, and a proponent of human growth beyond prejudices etc.

Sorry, but you're not. We all want human growth beyond prejudices, hate, and violence, but what you've done has nothing to do with that. Nothing. I've lost the respect I had for you.

No sale. Roberts gave us obsmacare.

I watched one minute- endured one minute of Cruz last night on mark levin

Could not bear his weird what-length-is-that beard and his wet, would you just cough already, voice and the repeating words three times in every sentence thinking about what a prick he was during the election after he gave in on the visa program after I supported him

Even as the most senior judge in the US, Roberts 'cannot' dictate any judge’s actions and votes

except his own.
