WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump is experiencing mild symptoms after testing positive for the coronavirus, administration officials said on Friday, as the White House and presidential election campaign scrambled to adjust to the bombshell development.
Trump, who has played down the threat of the coronavirus pandemic from the outset, said he and his wife Melania had tested positive for the deadly virus and were going into quarantine. Their son Barron had tested negative, a White House official said.
Trump is not incapacitated and is working in isolation to avoid infecting others, a White House official said. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said the president, 74, was exhibiting mild symptoms. They gave no more details.
We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER! Trump said in a tweet early on Friday morning.
Wall Street tumbled at news of one of the biggest health scares involving an American president for decades, with the S&P 500 plunging more than %1.5 at the opening.
Vice President Mike Pence and his wife tested negative, a Pence spokesman said. The White House official said Pence would work from his own residence several miles from the White House and his staff was being kept separated from Trumps staff out of an abundance of caution.
Pence, 61, a conservative former U.S. lawmaker and Indiana governor, would take over if Trump were to become incapacitated.

Limbaugh is depressing the hell out of me today. Doom & gloom.
To paraphrase Winston Churchill. Mr Biden, sir, I may be sick with covid right now but after my quarantine I will be well again. However, sir, you will still be cognitively impaired.
I expected nothing less.
When did Trump downplay the virus? I hate the media.
He was a bit at first.
Then he evened his keel.
POTUS means so much to him.
And we know how he feels.
POTUS puts me in mind of Churchill...
I haven’t heard anyone who claims it give me an exact quote yet. With full context, it doesn’t read that he does.
He will be broadcasting for his rally.
The President still has his pen and phone.
can it be viewed without signing up???
“Or an hour long virtual rally, tonight for The Florida rally.”

Do that, too, if he’s up to it. I’m thinking more of a short non-political fireside-type thing that can be easily and widely shared and is tailored for news use.
But the most important thing, at this point, is that he gets enough rest to beat back any potential severe symptoms.
Sun Tzu...he’s part of the plan...
Rush sounded like he was practicing the eulogy. He may have let the cat out of the bag that Trump is sicker than reported.
And Melania will be on the ballot...
I’m very curious as to what type drugs his Doctors are giving him. It would be so satisfying to find out it’s on the HCQ combo and he pulls out of it immediately. Think of the butt hurt Fauci and others would experience.
I don’t know. I hope so.
I was looking around for confirmation (just in case it was not true even if Fox Orlando reports it) but SVNews twitter has picked it up and I think the news is starting to circulate.

You need to trust so....and maybe not do so much news fishing. Twitter is the worst place to look. It’s a cesspol unless you’re familiar with those posting.
I was up when the news broke....once the media has anything they run with it in whatever bias they have toward this President.
I avoid the twitter gutter stuff as much as I can. Taints the soul. I’m now avoiding the ‘twitter trending’ as well. It’s like reading DU, which I haven’t been to for many years.
Trust but verify is my motto. ;)
I only know that my brother in law had mild symptoms and felt fine before he got sicker and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. That was two months ago and he’s still dragging ass, only about 70% of what he was before.
