The navy brass is always busy following the latest politically correct fads.
I entered the Air Force in Jan 1950. It had become the newest separate branch of service. In basic training I was issued “brown shoe” uniforms. Around June 1950 the new Blue Suit uniforms were issued. We quickly became known as “bus drivers” because the brass wanted to live down the flashing image of the Army Air Forces of WWII. Every change of big brass made changes to the uniform. The most stupid was the “Bush Jacket” version. It was tan with high stockings, short pants, hip length jacket and a full brim hat. Full parades were held with it as the uniform of the day to make sure everyone had a set. This applied to all personnel world wide. That didn’t last long but other changes are still going on.
