On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that he would “love to” make D.C. and Puerto Rico states and addressed the prospect of ending the filibuster if Democrats take the Senate by stating, “I’m not busting my chops to become majority leader to do very little or nothing. We are going to get a whole lot done. And as I’ve said, everything, everything is on the table.”
Schumer said that Senate Democrats are “using all the tactics we can” to slow down Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation.

Yes and it requires a mind warp as well. How can the federal government be or have it’s own state? It merely exists to execute the will of the sovereign states and the citizens thereof through their elected representatives. DC is a federal enclave as agreed upon by the 50 states.

If by some miracle the Republicans keep the White House and the Senate and gain the House would it make sense to give Puerto Rico independence and then retrocede DC to Maryland or at least provide that for purposes of federal elections DC would be considered part of Maryland?

Schummer must think that the Bronx is Puerto Rico. Island and mainland Puerto Rican politics look nothing alike. Right now in PR, the Governor, the Congresswoman and both the Senate and the House Presidents are all Republicans.
Historically, the GOP has supported statehood for Puerto Rico and the Dems have always been opposed.

Yes! That’s exactly what we need; to grant statehood and open our depleted coffers to 2 of the most mismanaged pieces of real estate to suck dry. Schumer has more than one screw loose in his purely evil brain, bent on destroying the U.S. to promote his commie party. What you said is the reason I left the Democrat Party. For so long I bought into the notion that the Democrats were the party of the working class and their main focus was on helping blue collar people, but then they started delving into social issues. When they openly embraced gay marriage and late term abortions that was it for me.
Schumer is evil X 10. He has an internet ad that pops up every now and then with him asking for donations. The look on his face is satanic. He’s a smarmy, tyrannical SOB.
It is abundantly clear that he is busting his chops to consolidate and expand Democrat power. It has absolutely nothing to do to help America. It will not create new jobs. It will not provide greater justice. It will not improve American lives, expect those who are the political elite and do their biding. Schumer is an enemy to American. He needs do be dealt with as such.
Schumer at least said that PR would not be made a state unless the residents voted for it. Every few years they have another referendum and there has never been majority support for statehood. But maybe a campaign promising lots of goodies if they became a state would tip it up to 50.1% in favor.
If PR wants to be a part of the US, just make them a part of New York.
