The Nation, a storied left-wing magazine, pondered the possibility of secession in an interview published Tuesday morning.
The idea has been circulating on the left over the past few weeks, as Democrats ponder the possibility of President Donald Trump being re-elected. Though many mainstream media polls show former Vice President Joe Biden with a lead, the polls have been wrong before — and Trump is running a confident, energetic campaign, while Biden is barely leaving his house.
The interview, “Should the United States Stay United?“, conducted by Jessica Suriano with Richard Kreitner, author of Break It Up: Secession, Division, and the Secret History of America’s Imperfect Union, focuses on the idea that secession need not be tarnished by slavery. Abolitionists, Kreitner argues, also considered seceding from the Union — and progressives should consider it today:
JESSICA SURIANO: Why did you think it was important in this book to address all of these other separatist movements that have happened in the past and across the political spectrum?
RICKY KREITNER: Of course everybody’s heard about the Confederacy and slavery, and it started my historical research, but that’s not really where the book came from. It came from this late-Obama-era moment where the thought occurred to me just based on things I’d been reading: What if the United States broke apart? Would that be such a bad thing? Is it possible that the progressive policies and programs that I wanted to see put into place might be easier to enact in a smaller entity than the United States, with its 330 million people and the need to always convince people with very different attitudes and interests? I GLADLY would fund large %’s of my income for a project to deport commies to secessionists states and to build a big, beautiful wall to keep them there. I think most of us would... it be an honor to fund such a project.
Same with all of Illinois that isn’t Chicago.
Let’s use Illinois as an example.
The state voted 40% for Trump.
80% of the state’s counties (mostly south of Chicago) are red.
If the IL legislate & governor decided to leave the union, would the 40% of residents (who control 80% of the land area) agree to leave?
Or would they succeed from the state of Illinois? Would they declare themselves a new state (called South Illinois) and apply for statehood in the Union?
How would the legislature & governor stop them? The state has no army.
The Illinois government doesn’t have enough firepower to force South Illinois to remain part of the state.
State troopers and police are likely to split along red/blue lines too. So threats is all they could make.
In summary, the most likely scenario if Illinois left the union is:
1. Illinois leaves the union.
2. Red Illinois counties refuse to go along and band together to succeed from the state of Illinois. Forming a new political unit: South Illinois.
3. Illinois’ government orders state police to secure the red counties. The police who are residents of the red counties refuse the order and switch sides.
4. There is violence between the blue & red security forces. Neither side has the firepower to force a victory.
5. Eventually, a truce is called and a treaty is signed recognizing the red counties as a separate political entity: South Illinois.
6. South Illinois applies to the Union for admittance as a state.
None of this involves anyone outside the boundaries of the current state of Illinois. No national civil war, but state level civil war.

The majority of D voters in those liberal hellholes have been told that voting D was patriotic and the best for the American people. Many have simply never thought it through and with the complicit MSM, won’t until things get very bad. If the D’s tried to steal some states they would find that they are truly a tiny minority. Then those states would smarten up and return to American values, hopefully.

Maybe you live 3,000 miles away from Seattle, but do you live very far from NYC, Richmond, Baltimore or WASHINGTON DC? Do you think the same crap would somehow magically not happen in VA? But supposing those states peacefully left - how long before they try to steal some more territory? Leftists always foul the nest and then blame someone else. They would go down the sewer in no time and try to make the rest of us pay for it anyway, even if they were independent. We’d have refugees and illegal Californians flooding the border states (like they are doing now in AZ, NH, VA and elsewhere). It would only be a matter of time - and with repetition, shorter and shorter intervals - until we had exactly the same problem, or a war, anyway.

Secession doesn’t work anymore.
The division is not regional, but urban vs. suburban and rural.
If you look at the 3-d election maps, the densely packed urban areas go Democrat and the outlying areas are mostly Republican.
For example, most counties in California are red, but the counties that make up LA, SF, Sacramento, etc., are blue and carry the whole state.
Yeah, except there is no peaceful, lawful method to leave the union; that was decided over a century and a half ago. States can hold a referendum, but the referendum would be meaningless as far as the federal government is concerned.
The only method to leave the union is to be prepared to have a shooting war with the US government and win it.
You left out the part where average citizens form death squads and go slaughtering people on the opposing side, probably with people coming in from out of state on both sides of the political divide to assist in the slaughter.

Don't be ridiculous. The COUNTRY of CA would negotiate defense, commercial and resource treaties with USA before the secession. Man you anti session unionist uber alles types can be real loons.
