The father of Ka'Mauri Harrison, the Harvey fourth-grader suspended last week after a teacher saw him move a BB gun out of the way during a virtual lesson, said the national response to the case has been "overwhelming," with offers of support from regular people and even the National Rifle Association.
In the days since news of Harrison's six-day suspension broke, the 9-year-old and his family have been swamped with messages via email and social media, some pledging legal or financial help.
"It's been overwhelming," Nyron Harrison said. Messages have been flooding in through Facebook and email, he said. "We've been getting a lot of invites to gun ranges and different gun clubs."
Friday, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced he planned to investigate whether Ka'Mauri's constitutional rights had been violated. Landry's announcement on Twitter drew an approving nod from the NRA.
"This is hysterical and irrational behavior by the school," the NRA's tweet read, adding that the organization supported, "this young student, and his family."
By Friday, the family's attorney, Chelsea Cusimano, had fielded requests from most national news networks, including ABC, CBS and CNN, as well as newspapers including the Washington Post and USA Today.

Mother AND Father in the picture! Glad to see it.
As for the school? Maybe the support will be enough for a GOOD SCHOOL!
Just ridiculous flap muck, but stay strong.
The hysteria is ridiculous. I had a Daisy BB gun growing up. So did my friend who lived next door. About a quarter of the kids in my neighborhood probably did - and we all grew up in California, not somewhere rural. Good for the NRA, supporting this kid.
A BB gun. Crazy World we live in now. All of us kids in the late 1950s and early ‘60s had BB guns and walked down the street with them all the time on our way to shoot squirrels and no one batted an eye. This too, was in California.
Someone has to say it: Youll shoot your eye out. /Christmas Story
We had a neighbor kid that would use his BB gun on our sunporch window panes! They were full of holes.
Nice. We never did anything like that.
In the 50’s we used to dress up in heavy winter coats and WWII gas masks and shoot each other with BB guns. Nobody died and nobody cried.
‘Christmas Story”
I am getting old. I tell ‘em at the post office that the item I am mailing is “fra-giley”. Blank looks now.
I told the ups store clerk; “is a henway”
“What’s a henway?”
...stepped right on it, he did.
....millennials!
They were avid hunters and the son used our windows for target practice. After mother gave numerous warnings she contacted town cop. It ceased after that.
So did we. No shooting above the chest.
I am sick and tired of living in a society where the media highlights every single person, researcher, politician, or organization that has the vapors about safety issues with everything involving everything from coronavirus, bb guns, bicycles, cars, monkey bars, wine, smoking, encephalitis, flesh eating bacteria, saturated fats, Alar, eggs, coffee, cats, dogs, flying, driving, keeping score in games, walking, exercising, peanuts, Big Wheels, Internet Usage, self esteem, asbestos, lead paint, you name it.
There is this freakish and odd fixation with total safety-the world will end with a skinned knee or hurt feelings. They want to wrap not just kids, but people up in bubble wrap.
We are all going to die. All of us. Nobody gets out alive. No one.
I am sick of living in a society where people have panic and fear written all over their faces about damn near anything. A kid has a BB gun in the background while taking part in a virtual lesson. The stupidity is astonishing.
It is not too much to predict they would have the same response if there were a photograph there, or even a painting of a BB gun.
Don’t go outside. Don’t swim in the ocean. Don’t do this. Don’t do that. Conservatives are complicit in this too, but the lion’s share of this stupidity is the Left. Their mental illness is becoming contagious.
We see it with this idiotic mask crap, and there is more of this coming.
It brings to mind this quote from C.S. Lewis: Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under live robber barons than under omnipotent moral busibodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good, will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
We took our shotguns to school so we could hunt for meat on the way home. Rural area. Had to leave them in the coat room at school though.
In the 60s in the alley behind our house I killed the Visible Man with my trusty Daisy BB gun
He spilled his guts
Lol! I tried a Jedi mind trick You dont need my money in drive thru. Turns out the cashier wasnt susceptible, didnt get it & just got concerned I wasn’t gonna pay.
The parents should inform the school that if the school is going to demand so much control then it will have to pay rent for the room. I even read of a teacher demanding that a student take down a pro USA sign because she could see it. If they can make such demands and claim that it is part of the school policy. Then the school should pay rent for the room.
