Members of the Minneapolis City Council are backtracking on their collapsed promise to dismantle the city's police department, with some councilors now saying the pledge was 'up for interpretation'.
On June 7 the council released a pledge to dismantle the Minneapolis police department and replace it with a new community support and outreach system following the May 25 death of George Floyd.
However, that effort was stalled in early August when the citys Charter Commission voted to pause the amendment to dissolve and replace the police force and voted to take 90 more days to review it.

They arent leaders. They do what they think the fake polls say they should do.
polls must look bad.
Sounds like dismantling the city council would be more productive.
I think this is an example when you vote people of childish immaturity into a city council. It is not only the polls but I am sure they are now being yelled at by their stupid constituents who have changed their minds that are based on emotions now that they see the reality of crime running rampant. They deserve each other.
Cowards!
OOOooooooh........
no— according to the fake polls—Trump is going to lose in minneeeeesota- also- this is what the local libs and losers see things:
1. the violence that is out of control in minneapolis and st paul- is caused by trump. (sh__ you not)
2.the leftover police are not doing their job-(more than a 100 police have left minneapolis- they are NOT ALLOWED to ARREST ANY Rioters.)!
3.We need to give our tax money to the poor and homeless-
(just passed this in st paul!- free $500 a month- the mayor gets to pick who gets the $$!- (but he cut the police budget)
4. Not reported- minneapolis has it’s own- “Chaz area!” 4cordoned off blocks.
just like seattle- not reported on AT ALL!
liberal losers everywhere in the twin cities-
(last but not least— there are minneapolis council people
getting PRIVATE ! security !— paid by tax dollars- the news will not cover this crap
sorry for the venting- seriously looking at moving
Really, really, bad.
“they are NOT ALLOWED to ARREST ANY Rioters”
they are NOT ALLOWED to ARREST ANY Rioters, carjackers, shoplifters, rapists, burglars, tresspassers, murderers, child molesters, muggers.
There, fixed it for you.
Reimagining reimagining.
The old meaning of “ what is, is”?.
“4. Not reported- minneapolis has its own- Chaz area! 4cordoned off blocks.
just like seattle- not reported on AT ALL!”
That’s news. What are the intersections involved/blocked?
And the business community and major commercial real estate interests have privately delivered some blunt threats.
Polling was so bad Biden's talking points switched from 'we think protests are peaceful' to condemning violence against police.
I love how the Democratic Party elite has totally destroyed their integrity. During the Democratic Party Presidential nomination process the party elites manipulated who got funding and who got bought off to withdraw so that their hand picked candidate, Sleepy Joe could be nominated. All of the crazy Bernie bro’s were horrified that once more they had been betrayed by the party they though carried their water. The solution for the Party elite was to provide the illusion of a more radical and progressive party.
The Antifa thugs and BLM rioting and looting has disgusted so many. The Dem's thought that giving the masses what they wanted freedom to riot and loot was the winning ticket. Now they have found out it is not popular and they are trying to distance themselves from that position. Once again proving to their core how unreliable, vision-less, and contemptible they really are.
Yeah, ya think...
From MPR news—
( also- barricades were still up a week ago) businesses are screwed and people have been assaulted- same crap as Seattle
the intersection where former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck has been closed to through-traffic for more than three months, as people gather there to mourn, offer gifts and build community.
Some call it a memorial, others call it a sanctuary. But for the neighbors who show up day in and day out to maintain the space, it’s a form of protest.
When the city announced its plans to reopen a section of the intersection earlier this month, the group responded with a list of 24 demands and a turnout of people prepared to stand their ground.
The city is looking at the art [at the memorial] as an opportunity for people to come and observe in the context of a museum, said Jeanelle Austin, who is volunteering as lead caretaker of the site. Its not just public grief. Its disruption of business as usual because there is an injustice and an inequity that needs to be addressed.
Austin and other volunteers say they arent yet willing to end their protest, even as the city moves ahead with its plan for a phased reopening. It has not set a date for removing the barricades that block cars from the intersection at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue. But in a statement, Mayor Jacob Frey said keeping the intersection closed indefinitely is not feasible. The City Council is expected to seek public comment on the plan at a meeting in September.
