WASHINGTON (AP) — Ahead of the first debate-stage matchup between President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden, each campaign is promising a stark contrast in policy, personality and preparation.
Trump has decided to skip any formal preparation. And while Biden’s team believes the significance of the debate may be exaggerated, the Democratic nominee has been aggressively preparing to take on the president.
Biden’s campaign has been holding mock debate sessions featuring Bob Bauer, a senior Biden adviser and former White House general counsel, playing the role of Trump, according to a person with direct knowledge of the preparations who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy. Bauer has not actually donned a Trump costume in line with Trump stand-ins from previous years, but he is representing his style and expected strategy.
“I’m sure the president will throw everything he can at (Biden). My guess is that they’re preparing for that -- bombarding him with insults and weird digressions,” said Jay Carney, a former aide to Biden and President Barack Obama.
“I think it’s an important moment — I think it’s really important for President Trump, because the direction of this election has been pretty stable for a long time now, and he needs to shake it up as any candidate would who’s behind,” Carney added. “The question is, can that work?”
Trump and Biden are scheduled to meet on the debate stage for the first time Tuesday night at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The 90-minute event moderated by Fox News host Chris Wallace is the first of three scheduled presidential debates. Vice President Mike Pence and California Sen. Kamala Harris, Biden’s running mate, will also debate in October.

As much as I want to believe that Biden will falter and look bad, we can’t assume that’ll happen.
Back in 2012 (and yes I know that was eight years ago), we all thought that Paul Ryan would clean up on Biden. He didn’t.
Biden was an insufferable ass during that whole debate but what did what he needed to do most and that was to prevent Ryan from landing any blows.
Biden will be prepping strongly for this. His handlers will have him wired up on Mountain Dew, Aricept and Adderall.
Plus, there is always the legitimate chance that the Biden campaign was slipped the questions in advance and Biden’s handlers have been drilling the answers into his brains for days now.
Let’s not assume this first debate is a gimme for Trump.
Joe Biden is NOT the same Joe he was 8 years ago so his performance with LYIN Ryan of course would be a world of difference!!

If this is true, then they are preparing Biden for all the wrong stuff.
Not sure if bringing up Hunter during the debate would be advantageous or not but if Trump did bring him up Slowjoe would blow a gasket on national TV . Might even finish him off in more ways than one .

we have to stop setting the bar so low for Biden, he has been memoriing answers all momth, that is why he stops campaining at 10 30 am,
He will do so so and because of the low bar the media will declare him the winner, so let’s set the bar higher not lower

This is no test of mental acuity for Biden. Biden has been doing this for 47 years, memorizing pat answers, acting angry for the people and he has been practicing every day for over a month, we keep setting the bar too low, the media will run with that and declar him the winner
I do hope Trump gets some rest. He’s working 6 am to midnight every day and traveling all around the country while Biden is pampered with days of debate prep.
I LOVE the Presidential (and VP) debates. I got rid of TV decades ago and the only thing I miss is the debates and the Olympics. I’ll go to someone else’s house to watch on Tues. . .

Trump is preparing by having rallies and gaining energy from the enthusiasm of his supporters.
Hidin Biden is preparing by taking a lot of drugs and a lot of naps.
I think Trump should pocket some sort of RF jamming device and point it at Biden’s podium.
Trump is preparing by sitting down with the likes of Chris Wallace for hostile “ gotcha” interviews. Trump is preparing by knowingly walking into stacked Town Halls with George Stephanopoulos Clinton.
In short he is preparing to walk the minefield by walking the minefield.
Look for the moderators to act as “fact checkers” as if Nancy Pelosi were moderating. Trump will be.
