WASHINGTON (AP) — Ahead of the first debate-stage matchup between President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden, each campaign is promising a stark contrast in policy, personality and preparation.
Trump has decided to skip any formal preparation. And while Biden’s team believes the significance of the debate may be exaggerated, the Democratic nominee has been aggressively preparing to take on the president.
Biden’s campaign has been holding mock debate sessions featuring Bob Bauer, a senior Biden adviser and former White House general counsel, playing the role of Trump, according to a person with direct knowledge of the preparations who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy. Bauer has not actually donned a Trump costume in line with Trump stand-ins from previous years, but he is representing his style and expected strategy.
“I’m sure the president will throw everything he can at (Biden). My guess is that they’re preparing for that -- bombarding him with insults and weird digressions,” said Jay Carney, a former aide to Biden and President Barack Obama.
“I think it’s an important moment — I think it’s really important for President Trump, because the direction of this election has been pretty stable for a long time now, and he needs to shake it up as any candidate would who’s behind,” Carney added. “The question is, can that work?”
Trump and Biden are scheduled to meet on the debate stage for the first time Tuesday night at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The 90-minute event moderated by Fox News host Chris Wallace is the first of three scheduled presidential debates. Vice President Mike Pence and California Sen. Kamala Harris, Biden’s running mate, will also debate in October.

If we are operating on that Joe has dementia which is pretty obvious what we know about dementia patients is that highly structured activities and schedules are important or avoid triggering a negative emotional response or meltdown.
Thus, and impromptu unscripted Trump May in fact be the very best possible preparation. I also note that Trump tends to be at his best when unscripted.

Maybe for the first 3o minutes Joe will seem OK, and of course Wallace will cut Trump off like he does every week to every Repub that goes on his show.

Trump will anger Biden who will blow up at the mention of Hunter, or maybe Tara Reade.
Wallace and Fox have given Joe the questions and he is now hunkered down in his basement rehearsing the answers with his handlers .
Trump should ignore Biden and just answer the questions at hand. If Biden is incoherent and struggling mentally it will be apparent to the viewers and any piling on by the President will just be viewed negatively by the suburban soccer moms.

You are totally wrong. given Biden has been in the Senate 180 years, I’m sure he won’t make any crazy statements.
Biden is drooling and mumbling incoherently while his staff members write answers to the questions that the moderator sent them.

The way around that, if a joe Biden meltdown occurs, is PDJT, to defer his time to Biden but after asking if Biden is ok and would like to expand his opinions. Then at a good time ask the SS and MS Jill Biden to assist while Asking the networks to go to other “important” programming to assist this “national important person”. You can squash a bug or you put a jar on it and. All all to see it. I am of the opinion squashing it on TV won’t be good for the country if Biden falls apart as expected.
If Jill and the networks stay on, he self destructs otherwise PDT is a person of integrity and honor. Win win.
Biden is not fit and it’s a travesty that the Dems are doing this. Hillary was one thing. She had physical issues. Joe is mentally deficient.
Here’s what they don’t get Trump with this very rough one and one interviews and press conferences has been sparring for this for years against people openly hostile to him...in the DNC debates Biden wasn’t that great he was ok but when he was challenged he would get very rattled now he has to go one on one with a guy who whose been preparing for this for years I expect Joe to be ok but I honestly don’t think Joe has any idea what Trump is going to do to him
