Less than one-third of Americans (only 29%) believe 2020 elections will be conducted fairly: Survey from the Public Affairs Council

Only 29 percent of Americans have faith that the 2020 elections will be conducted in an honest and open way, according to a survey released on Thursday from the Public Affairs Council.

Twenty-one percent of the survey respondents believe the elections will be neither honest nor open. The survey, conducted with Morning Consult, polled 2,199 adults on topics related to business, politics and government from Aug. 19 to 21.

Eighteen percent of respondents said they think the elections will be open to everyone with a right to vote but won’t be run in an honest way. Meanwhile, 14 percent think that the elections will be honest but not adequately open.

President Trump on Thursday said he would accept a hypothetical Supreme Court ruling declaring Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden the winner in the election. The small concession follows him declining to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the election.

“We’re going to have to see what happens, you know, but I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots. The ballots are a disaster,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday.

The survey also found that election concerns are higher for Democrats. Sixty-one percent of Democrats said they were concerned, as did 51 percent of independents. Only 45 percent of Republicans said they were concerned about honesty, openness or both.

President Trump on Thursday said he would accept a hypothetical Supreme Court ruling declaring Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden the winner in the election.

How does such a ruling even get made?

The Constitution says the Electoral College determines the winner, and only in the event of tie does the House of Representatives break the tie.

The Supreme Court does not get to "certify" the election.

Everyone tends to forget that Trump created a commission to determine if there has been widespread fraud in past elections. A perfect opportunity to demonstrate that fraud has not been occurring. Instead Democrat governors went to court to keep the commission from getting the data necessary to do their jobs. Not everyone who pleads the fifth is guilty, but guilty people readily plead the fifth.

Before the election, it is decided that whoever wins...is illegitimate.

In all scenarios.

There is only one course for the nation.

Judges and politicians have allowed this level of distrust to develop. They should be bending over backwards to make voting straightforward with very few “special rules”. Also, the integrity of voter-registration rolls should be a primary concern. Finally, one should need a verified SS# in order to register to vote, not merely a drivers license.

Didn’t Trump ultimately disband that commission?

Didn’t Trump ultimately disband that commission?

Yes because they were unable to obtain the necessary voter information from the states. The major Democrat states initiated lawsuits that would have taken forever to resolve. No point in paying for a commission that doesn't have the tools to get the job done.

I'm amazed the number is that high. Must be all those clueless FBI agents 'feeling' elections are always fair... skies are always blue and only goodness exists in this peaceful world.
