Two Republican senators have voiced their opposition to holding a confirmation vote on any nominee to the Supreme Court before Election Day as President Donald Trump and key Republicans signaled they are moving ahead without delay.
Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) over the weekend said the Senate shouldnt hold a vote on a nominee until after Nov. 3. Neither indicated if their opposition to a vote would translate into a vote against a nominee, in the likely case that Trump moves forward with the nomination and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) follows through on his vow to swiftly bring a confirmation vote to the floor.
Trump said at a rally on Sept. 19 that he plans to name a woman to fill the seat vacated by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a liberal icon who died on Sept. 18 at the age of 87. The president urged Republicans to move forward with the confirmation without delay, and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who will oversee the potential nominees committee hearings, signaled that hes ready to move forward.
So we win an election and those are the consequences, you know, its called fill that seat, and thats what were doing, Trump told a rally crowd in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Sept. 19. I will be putting forth a nominee next week. It will be a woman, it will be a woman.
While Murkowski and Collins have no procedural power to block a vote and havent said how they intend to act if a vote comes up, their opposition places them into a small group of Republicans viewed as swing votes in what is building up to be a major confirmation battle. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah),...

The usual suspects.
Expected with MurCowFace, but Collins might have wanted a help over the finish line in Maine.
They need to do their frickin’ job.
Dear Trump,
Don’t nominate a female Justice. Women are equivocal and could not stand the backlash if they said, “No”, to the Women’s Moment and abortion. The Constitution is not foremost in their mind - competing with men is foremost in their mind.
Don’t do it, please.
Collins is a rino and so is murky.
Their entire careers.
In the past Collins had her cohort Snowe to be best bud libs with.
Romneys wife is touring with Michelle Obama.
Romney will not Vote to support Trump, I think hell ask for the moon, and take the adoration from the Media.
He and his wife HATE Trump.
But when 50 support the President’s pick for the next Supreme Court justice, those two RINOs will not matter.
JoMa
Romney will vote for the nominee if it is a hispanic or black. Romney may hate Trump but his church comes first. They won’t want him seen to be opposing a POC for SCOTUS.
Couple of women haters...
Yep. Collins is already losing. One would think she would at least wait
until new Maine polls came out. It might have showed support for voting
to confirm.
HA HA
Collins and Murkowski voting against a woman SCOTUS judge, of their own party.
These two losers are truly pathetic.
Wow, way to paint women with a broad brush.
There would have to be two more defections and the possibilities are rapidly running out.
Romney - we don’t know for sure that he would vote to confirm but he consistently has voted for Trump’s judicial appointments. He said he would vote this year for a nominee. I’d be very surprised if he voted against.
Gardner - haven’t heard from him. He’s certain to lose his Senate reelection bid.....therefore he has little to lose. Heidi Heitkamp was in this same position for the Democrats before the Kavanaugh vote and was offered a nice well paid job at a Democrat think tank for being a good soldier for the party. The Republicans need to offer Gardner the same.
Joni Ernst? - I haven’t heard from her specifically but I haven’t seen any indication that she would not vote for a nominee.
McSally, Graham, Tillis, Alexander have all indicated they will vote to confirm. It looks like the Turtle has the votes.
If we deal with reality, 3 RINOs will block.
I believe that means you cant lose anyone else.
Romney has said he wont Vote for Trump in this (Presidential) election.
Hes already on record, and his wife is touring with Michelle Obama.
It doesnt take much to read those Tea Leaves.
.
Keep point-They have no authority to stop a vote. Said they prefer there not be a vote. They will vote when asked to vote and likely vote yes for a woman with a stellar legal resume
