Whether Sweden’s strategy is succeeding, however, is still very uncertain.
Its health authorities, and in particular chief epidemiologist Dr. Anders Tegnell, keep repeating a familiar warning: It’s too early to tell, and all countries are in a different phase of the pandemic.
This should leave us to wonder if that wasn’t the ideal solution from the beginning. If we had locked down the nursing homes and provided relief to everyone over the age of 55 so they could stay home, along with anyone with a doctor’s note saying they had underlying respiratory or immune system issues, could we have just left the rest of the economy running? The idea of requiring a doctor’s note wouldn’t be any big deal. Most employers do that already for many Human Resources functions, including the use of sick time for more than a day or two. Further, the death toll in New York City wouldn’t have been anywhere near what we saw were it not for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s disastrous order forcing nursing homes to take in COVID-19 patients and forbidding the screening of new residents.
What would our current death toll be today if we had followed that path? The vast, vast majority of healthy people under the age of 55 who contract the virus still come out the other side alive and without any serious, permanent health issues. There are some who are hit very hard to be sure, but the same can be said for other diseases that we live with (or, in some cases, don’t) every year. We’ll have to wait until the second wave has finished washing over Europe to be sure, but it’s starting to look as if the Swedes were onto something all along.

It is very difficult to get a true believer to admit this despite it being obviously true. In fact, it’s understated. Most people don’t even get sick from this thing. The “authorities” have been lying about the numbers from the beginning. What constitutes a “positive” test what constitutes a “COVID-19 death” ... it’s has all been designed to maximize the numbers. Now they are telling us that a vaccine won’t be enough. The goal line just keeps moving back. Sweden went a different direction, and got about the same results. From what the experts said, every single Swede should be dead.
Fauci based his faux numbers on the British faux numbers (long since revised) and praised the Chinese “response,” a shutdown which included welding people into their apartment buildings.
How he was able to encourage Trump to go along with this, I will never know. Actually, Trump had given it over to Pence, who accepted Fauci wholeheartedly. But Trump should have asked for a second opinion elsewhere.
It is still hard to put all the pieces into place without a massive drink of cool aid and a generous amount of tinfoil.
Perhaps Trump is thinking of welding folks into select apartment buildings on the first Monday in November and quarantining their mail for a month?
Everyone take note that Dr. Redfield head of CDC and virologist, said early on if everyone wear masks in 6 to 8 weeks have under control. Builds immunity safely.Redfield was on President’s advisory committee with Fauci Birx. Redfield dismissed from committee early on by unknown.
Seems like lots of blood on lots of hands in that committee.
The reality of this happening in an election year. It handcuffed Trump’s approach. As it is the rats are running effective attack ads for Trump’s ‘timid” approach despite shutting the country down weeks before the rats said the virus was an actual threat. I believe we would have taken Sweden’s approach had this thing hit next year
Sweden has well over twice the CFR the US has, which tells me they are committing gericide or underreporting. It’s easier to hide cases than deaths, but it’s not that hard to hide some of the deaths. And reporting practices vary from country to country, as do culture and lifestyle.
What might (disputed) have worked for Sweden would not work for the US.
“Amok” suggests that it wasn’t entirely purposeful on the part of Fauci and his conspirators.

At first, Sweden did not do a very good job of locking down their nursing homes. About half of their deaths are in long term care facilities. Mask wearing is not common, but they do well with social distancing and hygiene. Also, they haven’t had people demonstrating and rioting in the streets.
The headline and the first sentence are completely contradictory.

But Governor Cuomo was the most successful of all.
You can argue about what part of Sweden’s “economy” was saved and what part of ours has been “destroyed”.
But you can’t argue with Cuomo’s success in killing people.
One argument I haven’t heard much, or at all, in favor of locking down for a while at the outset is that we had a lot to learn about how to treat the cases. This far in, doctors have a lot more information on how to treat at various stages of the disease.
Sweden didn’t wait, so many people probably died who could have survived if they’d have been treated with methods that only became known after a few months of experience with the virus.
Recently, for example, administering vitamin D has shown to be a potentially powerful way to keep cases from progressing to need of an ICU.
And then there’s HCQ, azithromycin, and zinc. If there’s any justice, a gold standard study will prove that it’s an effective treatment and the study results will become available before at least one of the debates because Trump really should rub the Left’s and the media’s noses in it if it comes about. If it is shown conclusively to be an effective treatment, then the left is responsible for thousands of deaths in this country, and others too.
Been hitting the pipe early today?? Sweden now has a LOWER Death Rate than the US, it was ab9out even until a few weeks ago, and most of the European Countries have surpassed them in the Death Rate. They do NOT expect a “second wave” as a result of them achieving herd immunity before summer ended.

That’s right. Sweden’s cumulative deaths per capita is falling as their strategy plays out. They are going to look more and more correct as more time passes.
