Republican Senator Ted Cruz says President Donald Trump needs to nominate a successor Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg next week, and that the Senate should confirm that choice or the country risks a constitutional crisis.
I believe that the president should, next week, nominate a successor to the court. I think it is critical that the Senate takes up and confirms that successor before Election Day, Senator Cruz told Sean Hannity on Fox News.
Democrats and Joe Biden have made clear they intend to challenge this election. They intend to fight the legitimacy of the election. As you you know Hillary Clinton has told Joe Biden under no circumstances should you concede, you should challenge this election. and we cannot have election day come and go with a 4-4 court.
Cruz continued, A 4-4 court that is equally divided cannot decide anything. And I think we risk a constitutional crisis if we do not have a nine-justice Supreme Court, particularly when there is such a risk of a contested election.
Cruz then shared his experience litigating Bush vs. Gore case and how the country didnt know for 37 days who the president-elect was. I think we have the responsibility to do our job. The president should nominate a principled constitutionalist with a proven record and the Senate
should do our job and protect the country from the constitutional crisis that could result otherwise.

Dems demand GOP play it gently and sweetly with them. But you know the minute they get in, in January, 2021 they will do the Senate nuclear option and quickly pass hundreds of Bernie,AOC style bills with 51 votes.
And they will support the Southern District of NY to try to put Trump in prison.
They never played fair in their lives.
Cruz is right...I'm sorry to hear he's not interested in job himself. Cruz would make a great SC Justice...
There has to be a conservative black female somewhere in this country. This is a meatball pitch waiting for us to hit a grand slam. Why would we let the Dems off the hook. Make them vote down a black female to the supreme court and see where that gets them.
No mercy. The dems wont show any.
Ted has already stated he doesn’t want the job-
Yep, we don’t need another “Sessions” that cost us a Senate seat.
I wish Falwell had a law degree- Trump could really mess with the left’s minds by saying he’s considering him lol
Exactly-
Would the new justice be required to recuse his or her self regarding the election? You know it will be a huge confirmation question by the RATs.
We need a true fighter of democracy and nothing less.
Cruz would be great, but I think we all know the Ginsburg seat is a woman’s seat. Just the sad state of PC affairs.
But I do think it would be harder for Collins and Murkowski to vote against a woman than it would be to vote against their colleague Cruz. Their ilk would have no problem voting against Cruz.
Does Collins want to risk the women’s vote as well as all the Trumpers having to hold their nose to vote for her to keep the senate majority ?
Their no vote might well be the end of the country. They had better be made aware of that in no uncertain terms
If there is a tie in the House and a tie in the Supreme Court, then Trump becomes President for life.
That is my final legal interpretation on this.
How can Merkowski be punished for her traitorous defection from the Republican party?
Strip her of all committee positions. Exile her to the farthest most inaccessible basement office. Take away her parking place. Make her sit alone at a table in the corner for lunch.
“Roberts occasional unreliability.”
Roberts unreliability is reserved for when it will do the very most damage to the Constitution.
bttt
“less circus resistant”
I enjoyed the way you said that. Nice turn of phrase!
