"Corruption and betrayal of the American people the very people we stand to protect have no place at DEA, and neither does Mr. Irizarry," Acting DEA Administrator Timothy J. Shea said.
Former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Jose I. Irizarry, who previously was lauded by superiors before becoming entangled in a corruption case, pleaded guilty to 19 federal counts on Monday.
Prosecutors said that the former government worker submitted false reports, and directed DEA workers to send money meant for undercover stings into accounts that he had control over or that were connected to his wife and co-conspirators, according to the Associated Press.
Prosecutors accused Irizarry of divulging law enforcement information to co-conspirators, including a Colombian official and an individual allegedly involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
Money obtained through the illegal activities funded purchases of luxury items, including a $767,000 house in Cartagena and a $30,000 Tiffany ring.

US Govt & Mexican Drug Cartels.... married and living happily ever after upon US.
I have often thought that DEA agents might have super keen ethics; the temptations must be immense. Make a $100 mil bust and who would miss a little of the evidence {The French Connection}? Then they got caught partying with hookers in Columbia... well, talk about temptations; ideal blackmail scenario.
DEA is a super corrupt Fed agency.
They have spent too much time raiding doctors offices and not enough time on the drug cartels.
The DEA has been in China working with Chinese narcotics for over 30 years, so how could they have missed the importation of illicit fentanyl into the US which skyrocketed in 2016?
We need a Congressional investigation of the DEA
Back when the FBI had integrity, they and the SS used to be the ones with the best reputation. DEA was at the other end of the spectrum; ATF running them a close second.
I suspect we’ll find agencies within agencies, a CIA within CIA, a DEA within DEA, who use their secrecy and connections to do the very opposite of what we all suppose that they do. State Department? No agency within the agency, the whole thing is corrupt top to bottom.
“Better Call Saul!”
Drain the swamp
More to the point, I think we need a DEA investigation into Congress.
Both the DEA and Congress are compromised and infiltrated by the cartels, China.
That made me laugh.
Ty
I suspect those DemonKKKrat mayors having the BLM turmoil and drug gang shootings are on the take with the powerful drug cartels. It is the way the DemonKKKrats run.
And this, children, is why we do not knee-jerk support all law enforcement no matter what.
They are sinful humans just like the rest of us.
the war on drugs...........
Obviously didn’t he didn’t think this through. One of the first thing law enforcement looks at is extravagant purchases...
No. James Comey actions were jaw dropping.
