A Massachusetts town clerk has resigned after officials in the 4th Congressional District community lost track of thousands of ballots in the primary earlier this month.
Franklin Town Clerk Teresa Burr on Friday stepped down to re-establish confidence with the voters of this community in their elections, she wrote in her resignation letter.
Two days after the Sept. 1 primary, thousands of uncounted ballots surfaced in Franklin as the 4th Congressional District remained too close to call. The newly discovered 3,000 uncounted ballots were mail-in votes that appeared to have never made it to polling locations on Election Day.
Poll workers ended up counting the 3,000 ballots late into the night two days after the primary. Jake Auchincloss eventually won the Democratic primary.
In Burrs resignation letter, she noted that this election season has been the most challenging election cycle in my career.
I want to assure every resident that my performance over the past few months for this election was not intentional, nor have I ever conspired to deprive any voter of their ability to cast a ballot and have that ballot counted as part of an election, Burr wrote.
Any oversights that I made during this election cycle are due to the many challenges this election has brought upon myself, she added. I believe it is in the best interest of the community to have a new leadership team in place.
Officials in three 4th Congressional District communities Franklin, Newton and Wellesley two days after the primary restarted counting primary ballots following Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin filing a court order to authorize local poll workers to continue counting ballots that were received on time and had not been tallied by the end of primary night.

Butt, butt, butt........................
Maybe Donna Brazile can get her a job?
Just the latest in a number of numerous separate incidents involving mail-in ballots.
But the press/Democrats will continue to argue there is no evidence that mailing out millions of ballots and just having them floating around out there could cause an election to be thrown. Reality is that very real fraud is occurring on a wide scale - and it doesn’t even have to be intentional fraud - it can be shear incompetence or simple mistakes with something of this magnitude.
p
Accidentally mailed too late, or intentionally mailed late, and with fraudulent signatures, after campaign polls showed how many more votes a candidate needed.
“lost track of thousands of ballots”
Just sort of lost track of them. Oops.
We’ve officially become a banana republic.
Its a lose lose no matter who wins that race.
Let me be the first to congratulate the winner.
Crime does pay!
Oh boy...Howie Carr will be full of himself today. 3:00 EDT
BINGO!! TWO JUSTICE SYSTEMS...One for DEMOCRATS....they SKATE....and ONE for REPUBLICANS.....they get RUINED and go to prison!
November...December...Florida...Pennsylvania...Michigan...this will be the headline every day: “Oh,look...we found some more votes!”
Yup,he’ll have fun with this.
Why are we doing this to ourselves? Not us, but our leaders that is. “Wear a mask and social distance” works for everything but the voting booth? I’ve never been to one where I’ve had to stand within six feet of anyone for more than two minutes anyways. Just hold the dam election like normal but with some common sense adjustments we look like fools in this s country
They are unused to having a contested election as this is the Congressional District (CD) that Joe Kennedy III was representing since 2012. He effectively resigned it in trying to unseat Senator Ed Markey (D) in this 2020 primary.
Total votes in this D Primary was 156,029 and the ‘declared winner’, Jake Auchincloss, beat his closest rival, Jesse Mermell, by 2,033 votes, 34,971 to 32,938, a margin of 1.3% in a field of 6 candidates. Massachusetts redrew its CDs when it lost a seat in the 2010 census, so Joe Kennedy III was first holder of the new boundaries, which go south from Boston’s suburbs to the Rhode Island State Line. Median income is $100k+ for the district.
Three cheers for Howie.
BINGO!! TWO JUSTICE SYSTEMS...One for DEMOCRATS....they SKATE....and ONE for REPUBLICANS.....they get RUINED and go to prison!
Well, from January 2017 - January 2019 we had a Republican President, a Republican Senate and a Republican House.
If it was important, they should have done something about it.
There are dozens of cases like this. Why aren’t all of them brought up when the rats yap about mail in voting?
