On what legal basis can they claim to do this. I realize they are a private company, but a contract is a contract. On what legal basis can they claim to block donations to anyone?
Yep, time to cancel. Who needs any given credit card. There are lots to choose from. Here is hoping everybody cancels their Discover cards.
Yet more fodder for attorneys Wood and Pierce.
Arbitrary denial of service based on political attitudes will most likely be actionable. Imagine if they tried to do it to a terrorist organization like BLM. Global Screaming would ensue.
I “blocked” Discover 20 years ago. I advise others to do the same.
Grrrrrrrr.
Agree that it’s a completely reprehensible thing to do.
Now that Discover have shown their true colors, go around them. Find another avenue to donate; there are probably dozens. Discover needs to feel some economic pain as a result of their actions.
...”These people are shameful. I’ve cancelled my Discover and I can assure you I was a big spender. I will never renew and I’ll spread the word far and wide. This is BS.”...
Good for you! The license of this company to sell their product should be revoked because this action is discrimination against individuals based on differing ideas of what is happening in society. It should be like freedom of speech because it gives people the right to disagree with the popular media and high tech which is controlling information, which is a crucial right if we are to remain free.
This is just a taste of what WILL happen should our society go cashless.
The moment a company i am invested in, Starbucks, JCPenney, Disney, does anything “woke” i call Oppenheimer and say, “sell it.”
Discover ... the card that most merchants don’t want to take. Please, if Discover is your only card, look for another.
Yet another reason why the powers that be want to go cashless....control
Cancelling mine today. How do I let them know why ?
I canceled mine decades ago. It started out as a supercharged Sears credit card, IIRC. I don’t think too many people use it anymore. This is probably a trial balloon to gauge the backlash. Unless there is a huge outcry, Visa and MC are not too far behind.
Everyone should do a search on “Operation Chokepoint”. This was Obama’s experiment in using the banking system to take down ‘problematic’ businesses. It was exposed and subsequently suspended, and finally cancelled by PDJT. If Biden gets in, look for it to be brought back in a huge way, possibly affecting individuals.
“...support from the far-right.”
Remember, there is no such thing as the “far-left.”
Just, WOW !!
Looks as if Im going to have to Discover a new credit card.
Yet they are allowing donations to bail out rioters?
Even more reasons that I never got a Discover card. I was told 30 years ago it was one of the worst cards to get do to their customer practices. The new crop of managers continue to exacerbate the issues there.
