For example, I’ve been a skeptic about the claim that assassinations of Austrians caused a chain of events that forced Germany to attack the French and British forces in the attempt to occupy France.

There’s more than one kind of nationalism. One kind respects a right to exist for other nations and focuses on defense (nation).
