There was a scandal involving the construction of toll roads so the idiot Roy Cooper managed to squeak by on this issue. I doubt he will be re-elected. A lot of people here really detest him.

A variety of reasons explain that. The NC Dem party has their crap together better than some other southern states for one. NC has always been more amenable to electing democrats to statewide office than other neighboring states. Plus, there was a scandal that allowed Cooper to slither in.

3 things:
1)We lost a lot of Indies because of HB2. In hindsight it was better they blamed McCrory because we kept control of the legislature
2)80,000 surprise votes appeared from Durham County at 11:57pm. This sealed the Gov and AG offices for dims
3)We have too many spiteful pubbies who refused to vote for Pat McCrory.

Most NC governors have been Democrat since the year 1900. The first Republican governor was not elected until 1972. But Republicans have done well in some U.S. Senate races. Their best ever was the five terms of Jesse Helms.

Because the dumb @ss republican gov running for reelection thought it would be a great idea to introduce toll roads to one of the most powerful GOP strongholds in the state and piss them all off.

They “found” votes in Durham. Surprisingly they were Dem votes.

Rat “winner” Roy Cooper was the most popular rat in the state and ran ahead of the rest of the ticket. GOP Governor McCrory had problems, specifically the “tranny bathroom bill” that pissed off business groups.

Unfortunately, Cooper is polling way ahead of the rest of the rat ticket this year and is headed to victory again.

Cooper was elected in 2016 because the polls in Durham County, one of the most Democrat and "diverse" counties in the state, were kept open long after they should have closed due to "equipment problems" until the votes from the counties where the incumbent Republican governor was expected to do well had been tabulated. That way, Cooper knew how many votes he needed to win the election. I could not believe what was happening before my very eyes in the state that I had lived in all of my life!

Cooper has been a terrible governor! He is extremely partisan and has acted as a virtual dictator during the pandemic. I sincerely hope that he will be defeated in November, but he is currently ahead in the polls. His opponent is a strong conservative, but is not a very charismatic candidate.
