Isn’t the August congressional recess over? Hopefully this all gets resolved well before the Sept 30 deadline. Nobody wins or benefits, politically or otherwise, from another government shutdown.
Hopefully Nancy negotiates in good faith. Hopefully she doesn’t have to run off to the beauty shop before the deadline, and can stay focused on the task at hand.
The duration of the CR is not clear at this point, but the most likely option is that the government will be funded until December, when Congress would need to return for a lame-duck session to pass another short-term bill to fund the government into 2021.
The sources familiar with the talks said its possible any coronavirus relief deal reached this month could still hitch a ride on the CR but emphasized the items would run on separate tracks.
In this atmosphere of hate and distrust, anything is possible. Democrats would welcome a shutdown if they could be assured blame would fall on Trump and the Republicans. Some Republicans may wish to make a statement about the $3.5 trillion budget deficit the government has already run up and vote against a short-term CR.
No, the Senate is back on Tuesday, and the HOuse returns the following week, so Sep 14
Nancy will NEVER negotiate in good faith. It's wishful thinking to hope that she will. She is an utterly corrupt, thorough-going narcissist. She cares about only one thing: the further aggrandizement of her own POWER for her own self-satisfaction. There's nothing else. She'll even betray her own political party (as arguably she is doing) to get what she wants. Period. End of story.
