White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow opened up about his battle with alcohol and drug addiction during an event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday.
Kudlow, 73, said it would have been unthinkable for him to occupy his current position 25 years ago, when he left his job as a Bear Stearns financial analyst and entered a 12-step program to deal with his dependence on booze and cocaine.
I was a hopeless abuser of alcohol and drugs. I had tried several times unsuccessfully to get sober, Kudlow said.
Like a lot of my peers and friends, I went through bloody hell and suffered significant consequences. I was unemployable.
Kudlow said that by the grace of God his wife Judith did not divorce him, and he was eventually able to get sober.
He celebrated 25 years of sobriety this June.

I am NOT dissing your religion. I have the utmost respect for observant Jews. I have heard rumors for many years that respected Rabbis, especially Orthodox, here and there, do believe that Jesus is the Messiah. And, of course, many Jews accept him as Messiah. Some of them worship at Messianic Jewish congregations, and some join protestant or Catholic churches. I don’t know if you have heard that if you study the 54th chapter of Isaiah, you will see Jesus there, but it is true. You will not see his name, but you will recognize that Isaiah was referring to the Christ. And if you read Matthew, Mark, John, and 1 Peter, you will see some references to Isaiah. And do you not recall that God told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations -— goyim. meaning, of course, gentiles, specifically. But Messiah was, is, and always will be, a Jew, as were His apostles. As were most of the first converts to Christianity. We Christians and Jews all spring from Abraham.
Yes indeed. I read many years ago of his conversion to Catholicism, I believe with the guidance of Fr. George Rutler.
Kudlow was one of the most respected financial economists in the world when he crashed and burned in 1995.
He has been completely open about this since he returned to Wall Street and financial journalism in the late 1990s.
“Good for Larry. I admire people like him who fight thru addiction and then lead by example. I feel the same about obesity. When I see someone who is overweight walking or jogging, I quietly cheer them on.”
Agreed.
Not all of us can, apparently. Most of the people I know, however, are human. Human’s are fallible.
What species do you hang out with?
Malachi is so inadequate that he has to post ties stupid posts just to get attention he’s like a troll who just wants attention and throw everybody off a very interesting discussion he has nothing to contribute and so he just throws something out and people respond to him because it’s such a weird comment and nasty
Now watch he’ll do some personal name-calling or nasty response to this comment guaranteed
Yeah I wish FR had a filter capability so one could simply filter out any and all posts from personally specified disruptors. It’s unneeded noise.
What’s important right now is getting Trump reelected. That’s it.
It was a White House Recovery Month Event. Educate yourself
I’m 30 years sober. I know what I’m talking about.
That fact remains that your comment is stupid.
When it comes to economic advisors, Larry is the GOAT — greatest of all time.
