Cash? That’s weird. I did buy a car with cash once. The seller and I drove to the bank and the cash traded hands in the bank lobby after I pulled it out of my account right there. That was in 1981.

Otherwise I used a check when buying used cars. I would never show up to someone’s (who I’ve never met) home with a wad of cash. It could be a robbery.

Cash used to be a bargaining tool.

I can’t imagine any private seller accepting a check instead of cash. All of our vehicles are old and we’ve paid cash to the owner.

That said, he robbed them of $3000. I have to assume they thought they’d found the deal of a lifetime to get a 2017 for only $3000. Honest people don’t always think cynically.

We were looking for a used golf cart for my parents to use at their seasonal campground. My mom found one on Craigslist that was only $1999-it was a pic of one that was obviously worth at least $10,000. Far too good to be true. She was thoroughly annoyed at my naysaying. I kept warning her that it was not legit. She was so excited that she dismissed every red flag I pointed out about the posting. After a few back and forths with the seller she had to concede that it wasn’t a legitimate post. Her joy at finding such an amazing deal blinded her to the obvious and I was worried about what might happen to her if she took off to a neighboring state with $2000 cash in hand.
