New Jersey's Department of the Treasury announced a gas tax increase of 9.3 cents per gallon due to "lower fuel consumption trends, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic." The increase will go into effect this fall.
According to the treasury department, consumption of gasoline fell by a total of 38.7 percent from March to May in the state. Diesel fuel consumption decreased by 16.5 percent. The need for gasoline and diesel fuel continues to be low as people work from home and limit extracurricular activity due to the ongoing pandemic.

Defund killer NJ.
So, raising the price of something will increase consumption?
I thought the first rule if you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.
NY and NJ both believe that you can spend your way to prosperity and that raising taxes creates jobs wealth and happiness.
Remember that NJ was gullible enough to vote a gas tax increase on themselves because the increase was sold as somehow magically targeting out of state drivers.

LOL
NJ ping.
Typical LIB or POL logic.
(NOW that is a true oxymoron, LIB Pol and Logic 3 of the 5 words in one sentence)
During a ‘fuel shortage’ a while back they encouraged to not use fuel and the prices were like a yoyo..love it when the price of crude goes down they have to change the price AFTER the supply is depleted while when the crude goes up, they would raise the price in anticipation - about the same as when there is a ‘natural disaster ie storm etc.
W had ‘convinced’ the oil companies to take out some ‘expensive additive’ and they reluctantly agreed but the price barely budged...when questioned about not using the additive the response was SOMETHING HAS TO REPLACE IT and it is ‘OIL’ based.
During the same ‘shortage’ people were asked to conserve electricity and as if on cue, in a month or so the utilities wanted to raise the price to compensate the money lost (Think they are ‘guaranteed’ a certain profit margin)
The left only raises taxes.
Use more of something, the left raise taxes so you will use less.
Then when you do use less of something, the left raises taxes because of tax “shortfalls”.
When you use about the same, the left raises taxes because of repairs and maintenance to existing structures and for future growth.
It doesnt matter what you do, they always have an excuse to raise your taxes. Its their only solution apart from downright white racism govt approved discrimnation against you.

As an out-of-state driver I asked a station employee before the first increase why I should keep stopping in his state. He insisted the gas tax wasn't going to happen.
They realize that taxing something decreases use yet further dont they?
Everyone I spoke to when that happened said the same thing as well.
I figured it was coming.
Then when it did happen, I remember hearing some complain that they had to pay the same price as out of state drivers.
Unfortunately, this world has been overrun by government trained, indoctrinated, and educated communist revolutionaries who support such theft...
However, we should not be too strident about this state of affairs because it would disturb the sheeple while they blissfully graze and keep their heads down...
Shhhhh!
We won’t let you go to work but we still need the same amount of taxes from you.
So....drive more to fund the government because you havent been driving enough because we told you to stay your ass home unless you are peacefully protesting. Got it. Stuff your taxes says I.
When you have less and less viable industries, and even your casinos are a failure, your next step is to tax a captive audience's gasoline. One more incentive for employers and employees to telecommute.
Among the numerous blue states that need to be kicked out of the US, New Jersey is very near the top of the list.
These people are so stupid!
They can raise taxes without legislation?
