I usually agree with this.

But in some cases, a partial story can cause a scoundrel to try to spin the story with another falsehood that confirms he is a liar.

The Clinton affair with Monica comes to mind. BillieBoy never thought there would be a stained dress with a positive DNA test to PROVE him wrong in his denials. He and Hillary always assumed they could go with the “Vast Right-wing conspiracy” defense and destroy Monica and Tripp if necessary, and most all of their supporters would side with them since it would only be a he said/she said story.
