"A mail handler earned $141,153 in total overtime pay by working 3,329 regular overtime hours,
resulting in a tax-paid paycheck of $205,018 in total pay.

"This was equivalent to more than three times the amount of this employee's base salary."

This amount of overtime would have required this employee to work an average of 17-hour days,
consisting of eight regular work-hours and about nine overtime hours every day for 365 days a year.

I remember the mailman coming into our little office and talking for a half an hour.

They can't do that anymore. They have to scan in at predetermined points along their route and if they are taking too long they get red-flagged. Also their trucks all have GPS. My friend who works at the post office says a carrier was disciplined because his truck was parked for too long in the same spot every day (behind the home of a woman he was having an affair with).
