Trump’s strong Republican Convention speech increases his reelection chances
Fox News ^ | August 27 2020 | Doug Schoen

President Trump delivered one of the best speeches of his political career Thursday night as he accepted the Republican National Convention’s nomination for a second term, boosting his chances for reelection.

The president’s 70-minute speech was highly effective in the sense that he drew clear and arguably persuasive contrasts between himself and former Vice President Joe Biden in many areas, including their broad-based visions for America, the economy, and law enforcement.

In a way that was reminiscent of Trump’s positioning during the 2016 campaign, the president made it clear that he is running as an outsider and a non-politician against Democratic presidential nominee Biden, who Trump characterized as embodying the political class and the establishment.

According to Chris Wallace, it was flat and lacking.

The instance I saw Wallace's face, I changed the channel to C-SPAN. The days when we need the same old tired talking heads telling us what to think about what we just saw are long, long over.

FOX SUCKS. Paul Ryan is on the Board. Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, Donna Brazille, Juan Williams, and Neil Cavuto are killing the network. OANN is the place to be. Maybe Tucker will move over there.

Right. The night itself and the whole convention was a home run IMO, but the speech was too long and meandering by half, and Trump delivered it in a pretty lackluster way. One guy’s opinion out here for the rest of campaign: cut these speeches down and give him more elbow room to speak extemporaneously, where he shines. In other words, FREE TRUMP, or LET TRUMP BE TRUMP! That’s where he connects.

I really loved the fireworks spelling out Trump 2020 in red white blue. Also lover his comment about they cannot even keep the lights on in cal.

All politics is local. Hopefully when in ny he points to cuomo killing 50k old folks, in pa point out wolfs ridicules lock downs, same in NC and especially Michigan, Va the gun crap but going to be tough overcoming the DC crap effect.

For me, Virginia has always been where the Waffle Houses started appearing when I’d drive down South.

Schoen is one of the few honest Democrats remaining at the national level. There used to be quite a few, but they’ve faded away into history, leaving Schoen mostly by himself.

Funny you say that, because Schoen always strikes me as 20 years behind the times. He dutifully supports the Democrats as if we're still just having policy differences or friendly disagreements. He doesn't seem to grasp that "his party" would happily slit his throat and leave him to die on the street.

I find it odd that people would voluntarily watch any political speech by any politician, left or right. It’s more odd that one could be swayed by it either way. They’re all full of shit.

Schoen got dropped off somewhere during the Clinton years and has never quite caught up to the democrats since.

Ironically, of all the democrats who appear on Fox, he probably has a better grasp of the “average democrat” than the others though.

In other words, it is good for Trump that he said this.
