A Chicago alderman said there were a "variety of rumored events that may or may not happen," but noted that he "can't react to all of them"
The city of Chicago began installing barricades at multiple intersections near the downtown area on Wednesday, as city officials said a public safety drill was slated to take place on Thursday.
City employees could be seen putting large barricades up at several intersections in Streeterville and the Gold Coast, including on East Oak Street, East Walton Street and North Michigan Avenue.
Office of Emergency Management and Communications officials confirmed with NBC that a drill was scheduled for Thursday with city public safety officials, with setup taking place Wednesday.
A city official issued a statement a short time later, saying that public safety workers were installing "assets" in downtown.
"The city of Chicago is piloting public safety measures and will be temporarily staging assets throughout the downtown area," according to a statement.
Chicago Ald. Brian Hopkins of the 2nd Ward called the changes "preparations put into place that take time," noting that Jersey wall barriers were "moving around at strategic locations" and that decorative flower pots were being used as barricades, placed on curb lanes and sidewalks that could "easily be moved if we have to block a street."
I think Chicago knows that BLM and Antifa is about to launch a destroy mission on Chicago
Martial Law Lite.
Just teens on a lark
I’m happy for those business that were able to negotiate this protection from the city.
I feel bad for those businesses outside of the protected areas. I recommend they board up, remove all inventory and evacuate. Find someplace nice and open up there.
Because 3 ft barricades and “do not enter” signs will stop a mob.
Clearly the city leaders in Chicago are concerned about more rioting.
We’ll see if these city riots fundamentally transform many of our big cities. Will critical masses of people and businesses move out? Who is going to rent all that office space? Who is going to live in all those fancy condos in neighborhoods such as Chicago’s Near North Side, if formerly upscale areas are targeted for violence???
And will retailers continue to rebuild to stay in these areas, if their customers are no longer there?
We could well see resurgences in more distant suburbs of big cities, as well as resurgences in small town America. It could take a period of years to see how this plays out, but the seeds of bad changes are being planted right now.

A Labor Day riot perhaps? Post election rampage? Or just another massive looting and window smashing spree?
But it does little good to put up barriers when the police have their hands tied.
Am I the only one who noticed all the bullet holes in the barricade??
A)
Impenetrable barriers
B)
"Useless wall that will not stop invaders.
I’ve seen stop signs on back country roads in better shape.
Who is going to lend money to these businesses or run the risk of insuring them in such a riot prone area, particularly with a customer base that is leaving the city?
The corrupt city politicians are just now realizing they are killing the golden goose. After the damage is done.
Your comments were spot on by the way.
Now that brings back some memories! :-)

chi town mayor lori “catfish” lightfoot installing “barricades” (not to be confused with walls) for public safety
Earlier this week I heard that foot traffic downtown is down nearly 70% from last year. Navy Pier has closed down for lack of visitors.
“Because 3 ft barricades and do not enter signs will stop a mob.”
My thoughts exactly.
They’ll see this as an invitation or a dare.
Now this is funny
