The body of an off-duty Detroit firefighter who helped rescue swimmers in distress was recovered over the weekend by Detroit Police and Detroit Fire divers, according to a tweet from the Michigan State Police for the Metro Detroit region.
Another person also jumped into the lake with Johnson and was able to rescue one girl, and a nearby boat in the area was able to rescue the other two, he said. Once everyone was out of the water, Johnsons daughter realized her father was not among the crowd and called police to let them know he was still in the water, Fornell said.

I swam out to rescue a young guy in a lake.
He was yelling for help.
I was at the lake with my young Son and nephew.
I thought the young guy might be faking.
A woman screamed at me to save the young guy.
I went out to get him.
I am an adequate swimmer, not a lifeguard.
The young guy tried to push me under so he could sit on me and keep his head out of the water.
I finally punched him in the face.
He calmed down and I towed him with him on his back and my hand under his chin.
I tired out.
Id been hiking all day.
I realized that I was going to die.
I grabbed the young guy and pushed him to shore.
I went under.
I was sad that my Son was going to have to watch me die.
My feet hit the bottom.
I was close to shore!
I came charging out, and pulled the young guy up on the bank.
He was fine.
Its way harder than most people think.
Bless you.
Why would anyone attempt to swim in the Detoilet river?
Great walleye fishing, but far too dangerous and swift to swim.
Its way harder than most people think.

I rescued my then 12 year old nephew from drowning, I was 25 at the time. One might think a 12 year old couldn’t put up much of a struggle against a grown man.
He damn near drowned us both.
Yes it is. Great story. Your job here wasn't done, as I'm sure you have contemplated.
If he knew Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior yes he went straight to Heaven as all believers do. If he did not no act of bravery could save him
One other remark. This has nothing to do with being in a stressful or life saving situation. When I was a young very healthy specimen, one task assigned was "swim as far as you can in 15 minutes." Venue was a pool, water not cold.
I did okay, well above average but no athletic star. I could barely walk for the half hour. Literally had to crawl up stairs.
I guess one more, one more. I was dressed in a swimsuit. If you go in in jeans, khakis, anything but briefs, swimgear, or nekkid, you'll have to work much harder.
“Somebody should have worn a condom”
Yeah, and I think I know who...
Thanks for the inspiration. Great account!
RIP.
I think you meant to post that on the Kellyanne thread.
Yep.
They are in panic mode.
They are just thinking about getting air.
I always wonder how hes doing.
I hope hes having a great life.
I really thought he was messing around.
I took off my shirt and shoes and socks.
I started to take off my jeans, but there was that lady there, so I left them on.
Dumb on my part.
Modesty comes after safety.
I have.
I sure hope things have gone good for that young guy.
Heh, well. An unfortunate mistake to have posted in this particular thread. You can “report abuse” to have your post removed, since it was an accident.
Sorry - I meant to post on the Kellyanne thread - too many windows open. I’ve reported my post as abuse to have it remove....
