I like that idea too. It was a military tribunal overseen by Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt, that found the Lincoln assassination conspirators guilty.
“It was a military tribunal overseen by Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt, that found the Lincoln assassination conspirators guilty.”
There was a very good movie about that (well, mainly about Mary Surratt). It was called “The Conspirator.”
Interesting side note— Union General Lew Wallace sat on the Lincoln Conspirator’s trial commission. And also on the military commission that tried Swiss citizen Henry Wirz, Commandant of Andersonville Prison (of the CSA).
Aside from these duties, Wallace in later life became a famous author, writing the classic “Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ”
