Historic church, cemetery in peril again due to wall construction
The Monitor (McAllen, Texas) ^ | August 19, 2020 | Lorenzo Zazueta-Castro

About a year ago Sylvia Ramirez and her family thought they had saved an historic church and cemetery tied to her ancestors from border wall construction that would essentially “wall” them off from the rest of the country...

She learned through her attorney Monday, as part of ongoing litigation with the government over construction near the land in San Juan, that the government would begin building a border wall on the current levee that leads into the property by the end of the month...

On Friday, Aug. 14, Ramirez observed for herself what appeared to be clearing of land on the north side of the property...

She said she doesn’t consider the fact that the construction won’t touch the actual church and cemetery a compromise...

“Even if the border wall and its enforcement zone do not disturb or touch the cemetery, and the church, it will still impact them, by its very presence,” she said.

Another long awaited segment in the Rio Grande Valley (East of McAllen, between Pharr and Alamo - just West of the Santa Ana Wildlife Reserve) is finally getting started with construction.

This segment was on contract for an exceptionally long time, waiting for the land acquisition issues to get settled, before construction could start.

This segment will be all new Construction (where no barrier existed before), and will entail upgrading the flood levee to FEMA Hurricane standards (so it's construction will be slow paced).

Build the wall.

However, have a gate, for the church and cemetery.

See. Simple.

A long awaited segment in the Rio Grande Valley, is finally starting construction.

I think that this segment was among those funded in 2018, and just now fixing to break ground.

A good sign that the land acquisition hold ups in Texas are finally resolving.

They are getting an automated gate (Keypad access). They are still not happy - they wanted to prevent the wall overall.

They failed. We Won.

Using the church as a gateway for the cartels. Too bad some of that Cali dry lightning can’t be put to use here.

Just be thankful you don’t have a statue of Junipero Serra on your property. Or Jesus for that matter.

This can’t be true.

I keep getting told by every Libtard that only 7 miles of wall have been built and we have been scammed.

This woman must be a heretic....

I don’t think those in the cemetery will notice.

Cemeteries have been moved and/or covered over for the greater good forever. Ever see what happens when a new damn is built?

Build the wall.

I wonder how many thousands of illegals have entered the US over the grounds of the church and cemetery while doing their traffic of drugs and humans. Reyonosa MEX is just the other side of the RG River.

Build the wall.

However, leave a gap for the church and cemetery.

After the 100,000th* illegal alien invader uses the cemetery as his personal trashcan and toilet, Sylvia Ramirez and her family will beg for a wall.

See. Simple.

* I'm assuming they're slow learners, it may only take 10,000 times of cleaning the poop off of their family's graves...
