The USPS Just Filed A Patent For A Blockchain-Based Secure-Voting System

In light of the 2020 US presidential elections, Trump admitted to denying funding to the US Postal Service (USPS), despite the mailing service’s proposal on Thursday of a new patent for a blockchain-powered voting system, which would make ballot casting more secure.

President of the United States (POTUS) Donald Trump had been reported by Forbes to have denied USPS’ funding in order to block mail-in voting, sparking rage from Joe Biden’s Democratic Party, who allegedly needs that money sponsoring to keep the post office rolling and the ballots coming.

With all this ongoing, the U.S Patent and Trademark Office presented the USPS’ official patent application, dubbed the “Secure Voting System,” which leverages blockchain technology to securitize the voting process and transmit the incoming ballots more efficiently and quickly.

Just to stop the confusion before it starts—Bitcoin is on the blockchain, but a blockchain can be used to track anything.

For example, you could put the county home registry on the blockchain. It would make title searches free and secure. And cheaper.

This does not mean tying it to bitcoin.

Do you have an idea how blockchain tech works? This is not tracking WHO you vote for, but rather that you voted.

It is secure. It is a lot safer than mail in ballots. And it is public. Just like the voting list—I can see that YOU went to the polls, just not who you voted for.

One has to wonder about the "coincidental timing" of this recently filed patent, IMHO.

Let's go back to the days of Mullah Obama.

Recall he was "concerned" about the security of the voting systems when it was made known hacking had been attempted on some state's systems. So (bless his heart), he proposed a national, not state, voting system.

The fact that the USPS has coincidentally been working on this for years is no surprise.

Blockchain balloting is very different from mass postal voter fraud.

This thread will be fun to watch. A bunch of people who clearly do not understand the technology and who’s knee jerk reaction to anything is that it’s a leftist, communist plot.

Of course, this was announced today—so it must have been thought of yesterday.

The people around FR used to have so much more on the ball.

Well, Trump did not deny anybody anything, so that part of this article is a load of crap.

Can’t say whether the author was more attentive to any other facts they might have been using.

“If Dems are so concerned about mailboxes, why didn’t they condemn the burning down of Post Offices by BLM terrorists?’

This is why Amazon’s delivery service should collect all the mail-in votes.

US post office has lost/ miss sent many, many of my packages, UPS, WORSE!!!
FedX was good but I don’t see them so much since I retired.

How will the USPS ensure that its own data base of 160 million residences, businesses, and PO Boxes is up to date?

How does the block chain deal with the fact that the States themselves have NOT cleaned up their data bases of registered voters, keeping in the mix those who have died, those who have had a change of address, and maybe those who are ineligible to vote?

What does the block chain have to accommodate voter ID to ensure the integrity of our system, that we have one person one vote for eligible US citizens?

that also requires belief they set it up properly and keep it secure

not gonna happen at a place like usps

i would be doubtful even in a place i worked at

"Paul Madsen, the Technical Lead at Hedera Hashgraph – a distributed ledger technology invented by Dr. Leemon Baird, addressed this strength and feature of blockchain technology outlined in the patent as its selling point, though he makes clear that “blockchains are not a magic bullet for voting platforms.

The thing about decentralized ledgers is that it isn’t good enough to just have a good algorithm, you need good governance. You need a way of building trust that more than two-thirds of the nodes will be honest. Because every algorithm can be corrupted if a third of the nodes are dishonest and the attacker can do things with the internet. Every system has that problem, and so you've got to have trust.

"Trust" the fed gov to do this fairly, and honestly?
"Trust" that foreign powers won't hack the system?
"Trust" that some leftist tech company(s) wont corrupt the nodes?

No thanks. Not buying what their selling.

Further...

"Trump complained about the patent brought forward by USPS by saying that with a blockchain-leveraged voting system, there would be no confirmation and way to verify whether the voter inscribed on the ballot was actually the one casting the vote."

Blockchain might be cool for various types of transactions...but voting should not be one of them.

Voting isn't some financial transaction like a purchase on the internet. WAAAAYYYY to much at stake with voting, especially in a presidential election year.

Again, no thanks.

It's not about making the ballots "secure."

It's about making sure that only living citizens can get ballots.

"It's not about making the ballots "secure.""

Exactly. Besides, that can't be done with any degree of certainty (see above).

"It's about making sure that only living citizens can get ballots."

And only one (1) ballot per person...not one for each residence they have ever lived at, or multiple property owners. Voter rolls are notoriously corrupted.
