Belarus leader says Russia willing to help counter protests

Thousands of demonstrators in Belarus took to the streets again Saturday to demand that the country's authoritarian leader resign after a presidential vote they called fraudulent. In response, the president declared that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had agreed to provide security assistance to restore order if Belarus requested it.

President Alexander Lukashenko spoke Saturday evening several hours after a phone call with Putin as he struggled to counter the biggest challenge yet to his 26 years in power.

Saturday was the seventh consecutive day of large protests against the results of the country's Aug. 9 presidential election in which election officials claimed the 65-year-old Lukashenko won a sixth term in a landslide. Opposition supporters believe the election figures were manipulated and say protesters have been beaten mercilessly by police since the vote.

Harsh police crackdowns against the protesters, including the detention of some 7,000 people, have not quashed the most sustained anti-government movement since Lukashenko took power in 1994.

Don't know what's going on there?

Anybody know?

Is this legitimate protests against a rigged election or is this a soros funded coup attempt?

I see it as a harbinger to what the left will do here when PDJT wins in a landslide.

As an aside, this is what happened in the 2006 presidential election in Kenya.

Then senator "barack hussein obama" openly campaigned for his "cousin" raila odinga, a communist allied with the islamists.

When he lost the election a wave of violence and terror perpetrated by the "religion of pieces" and the communists wracked the country, including them burning alive scores of Christian men, women and children in a church.

To mollify the terrorists, the elected president and government created the office of prime minister for odinga and signed a power sharing agreement.

Who says violence is not the answer?/sarc

That place has been heating up for a few days now.

Belarus, officially the Republic of Belarus and formerly known as Byelorussia or Belorussia, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. Its capital and most populous city is Minsk

7000 people have been detained and he’s been in office for 26 years. Something smells bad over there

Belarus is the USSR circa 1952. It is a Stalinist museum.

Foreign tourists are shadowed by the KGB and arrested for photographing bridges, like in the old days.

Belarus shares an open border with Russia. Help from Putin is just a convoy away.

The Belarus protesters are encouraged by the USA ‘protesters’.

Then the USA ‘protesters’ are not stopped when they turn into ‘rioters’.

So Lukashenko has to crack down extra hard to stop the protester to rioter progression.

So, I opine, The Belarus protest problems are the fault of USA not stopping rioters.

Belarus and Hong Kong fight for freedom. American thugs fight for tyranny.

Belarus always acted like a satellite of Russia. In fact, they kept more of how they did back in USSR than Russia.

It would be interesting to see if Putin dares to send paratroopers to Minsk. Probably now is a good time to do it with USA distracted by COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming Presidential election.
