RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina public health officials have announced a major reporting error in the number of coronavirus tests conducted since the start of the pandemic.
North Carolina previously reported having more than 2 million COVID-19 tests performed.

How could double counting of tests not have affected the “confirmed case” counts since a number of the double counted tests would have been positive result tests which is their definition of a “case”.
The # of tests and the # of negatives are pretty useless statistics.

THIS is why people who publish the numbers, and the ones who believe the numbers, are morons. The numbers are meaningless. Yet, the unwashed eagerly wait to see the latest tally, as if it’s like winning the lottery.
So that many were “double” counted, i.e., twice. What’s the word/phrase for the tests on one person that were done 28+ times and were counted as 28 separate cases?

Hopefully, this will help bring in more honest numbers so we know where it’s at.
I work in a hospital lab that processes these tests and sends them to Lab Corp. I know for a fact that what they are calling new “cases” are often repeat testing on the same patient.
When the states opened back up and postponed surgeries were being scheduled every patient had to be prescreened for Covid. If they were positive they had to have repeat testing until they were negative before they could go ahead with the surgery. The repeat testing is identified not as an individual patient but as a specimen. Every positive is counted as a new “case” regardless of whether they were duplicates on the same person.
Also, when a positive covid patient is transferred to our hospital from a nursing home or smaller satellite, they must have a repeat test at our facility to verify the positive.
