Liz Peek: Trump's big win on relief orders – here's why Pelosi, Schumer are so unhappy
foxnews ^ | Liz Peek

What a smackdown!

While Democrat leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer were blocking a bill to help Americans through the COVID-19 crisis, President Trump stepped up and got the job done, all by himself.

He issued four executive orders that would extend modified unemployment relief to millions who are out of work, protect many from eviction, provide continued relief from student loan debt and suspend payroll taxes for employers and those earning less than $100,000.

This made House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Schumer very, very unhappy. Pelosi called Trump’s measures “illusions.”

Sorry, Madam Speaker, for families in need, an extra $400 per week unemployment pay is absolutely real, and extremely welcome.

The president boxed the Democrats in – how can they possibly challenge his orders or take his mandated benefits away from people? The chagrined duo whined that Trump “still does not comprehend the seriousness or the urgency of the health and economic crises facing working families.”

On the contrary, the president understands the urgency very well, and also understands political hardball.

Instead of compromising on legislation that would immediately help Americans pummeled by the coronavirus, Pelosi and Schumer prioritized issues that had nothing to do with the well-being of the nation. They pressed instead to ban ID requirements and signature verification for voters – measures that, as the president noted, would encourage increased fraud in our elections, and that Republicans would never accept.

Mainly, Pelosi and Schumer stonewalled because they want to torpedo the U.S. economy. Democrats know that creating jobs is Trump’s signature achievement, and also the most important issue to voters. By blocking the next round of stimulus, they intentionally undermined the financial security of tens of millions of Americans.

They don’t care; their priority is beating President Trump. The American people be damned.

Just because it’s only a band-aid is no sign you shouldn’t apply one to stop the bleeding and prevent infection. Happy dance? Not much danger of that. This whole year is like a bad dream.

The dems were holding the relief bill hostage with their leftist dream list thinking that they could force them through because no republican wanted to appear to be the bad guy in an election year. Trump end ran them and punked them so they're now boxed in. It was a genius political move on Trump's part and they can't stand it, the usual weak republican presidents like Bush would have just caved to their demands.

It's refreshing to see a republican president actually show some backbone after three decades of watching the dems shove socialism down the throats of the American people. Just like a bully that finally gets a bloody nose when his victims have had enough, the dems are screaming bloody murder now that the tables have been turned on them.

He also said he may make it permanent. . .the funds for social security can come from the General Fund. Given that Congress has actually put the SS dollars into the general fund because the Constitution does not permit government retirement plans, per the Supreme Court back when SS was initially implemented. It was changed from an actual retirement plan to a tax, and since Congress had access to it, they spent it for other purposes, replacing with IOU’s. The President is simply turning the tables on them. More ju jitsu on socialism.

That is not really clear at this time. It depends on the wording in the EO. The money can be considered a “loan” and as such can be forgiven as others have in earlier programs. The best way of ensuring no payback would be to pass legislation (forgiving the need to reimburse) which I don’t think would be a problem since even the Liberals wouldn’t want to wear that around their necks if they blocked forgiveness.

Good point. You mean like student loans?

You fail to see Trump's genius.

Let's make the Dems responsible for *re-instating* that tax from "working families."

Working class gets a break in our STEEPLY progressive income tax. Not so for Socialist Security taxes. They'll notice the difference.

It’s no big win at all. Gas prices are falling as $ power demand is falling with no jobs or low end scale jobs. This was a bank-insurance Bailout AGAIN.
The 1200 vanished.

Whatever extra money you get in your paycheck-—set it aside in a another bank account & be ready to pay it when the deferment is over.

IF you re qualified to have a job-—you are qualified to do this for yourself.

Trump, at his presser yesterday, said in an aside that ‘we’ll get rid of that later’, referring to the delayed tax obligation.
