JAPAN has hit out at Chinese encroachment in the South China Sea warning Beijing to halt their expansionist policies or risk paying a "high cost
Usually, Japan is not as vocal as other nations about China's interests in the South China Sea, but the latest outburst from Tokyo as ignited fury from Beijing. Japanese Defence Minister Taro Kono said: "Anyone who is trying to change the status quo by force needs to be forced to pay a high cost." Mr Kono said China's building of fortified installations across the South China Sea is "destabilizing".
He added: "A free and open maritime order in the South China Sea is as important as any other place and what happens there will concern the international community."
Japan now follows the US to condemn Beijing's moves to claim sovereignty over large sections of international waters.
China claims the region within the nine-dash line.
This line on a map has not been verified by any international body, but only by the Chinese Communist Party who make a historic claim via maps drawn up by during the Qing dynasty.

China is expanding on all fronts so you better watch out , D’oh
Also,if Japan gets belligerent China could arrange for a few dozen North Korean missiles to land a couple of miles from their shores.
The Japanese non-aircraft carrier carriers got China’s attention fast. They also have copies of our Burkes. Japan could go nuclear very fast too.
Japan’s “defense” forces can be quite offensive......
We have a mutual defense pact with Japan - attack Japan, get Reagan and Truman
Japan is capable of building hundreds of nukes with very accurate delivery systems in extremely short order.
Also, Japan has been invited to join the 5Eyes intelligence group.
About the length of time it would take to get the tools out and do the assembly !
The Japanese Navy (JMSDF) is a formidable challenge for China’s Navy (PLAN). They would sink no less than 1/2 of the PLAN in the first 2 days.
Throw in a US Battle Group, and that war is won.
Watching some analysts a few years ago and the moderator asked one how long would it take for Japan to develop a nuclear weapon - the response was: "oh, about 72 hours".
You think you're invincible because of your numbers, well for a culture who supposedly thinks long term, you are kidding yourselves. Japan is re-militarizing right off your coast. Then there is Taiwan that's spending big money on defense.
You may have allies with the Norks and possibly Iran, but do you think with the entire world pissed at you with Covid-19, you will gain any more? You have now become the Soviet Union of this era. Much of the entire world will align against you if you try invade a free country.
You screwed up by not learning the lessons of Hong Kong, and if you don't back off, your leadership will be the targeted losers no matter how deep your bunkers are. You think the US and Allies don't know where they are? If Japan keeps on track with its military buildup, China will go back to dynasty days and forging swords. Don't even think of the few nukes you have.
Suppose the Gongboxia Dam collapsed under circumstances that suggest, but cannot prove Japanese involvement.
Japan expresses its sorrow over the terrible incident, note that it is a similar age and technology as the Three Gorges Dam, and comments "That's a nice dam youse gots there, it would be a shame if anything happened to it!"...
” I doubt that the Japanese Navy would be much of a match for China.”
Edify yourself.
They are the 4th largest Navy by tonnage, have AEGIS Destroyers...and a great culture with naval warfare experience.
They could put 80 warships to sea on a moments notice. And follow with another 30 in 30 days. Their subs are superior.
Their Air Force can cover them from the air too.
Think of them as a Badger. While you might win, you will suffer horrible wounds and may die from them later.
I suspect that they already have.
A 3,000-meter airstrip has been built on Nansha Yongshu Reef. (CCTV screenshot)
It looks like a target to me.
A single B-1B pass at 700ft and Mach 1.2.
Hell, the B-1 might even get there before anyone there knows to get the birds aloft:)
I wonder how much China spent on their stationary aircraft carrier built on coral?
The Japanese navy is a true blue water navy. They have a new class of super silent submarines and “aircraft” carriers. (Their carriers are for helicopters, but could be converted easily.)
In a war, Japan would sink everything commercial going to or coming from China whereas China would have a hard time doing the same to Japan. Where both nations need imported food, China has direct access to the Pacific and China does not, in the same way.
China is on the verge of a complete collapse and their economy is one of the worst on the planet. Not saying they aren’t crazy enough to go to war, but it would be near suicidal given their current state.
Below are some interesting articles on the situation.
Nice little island you got there Xi. Would be a shame if something happens to it.
Have you considered Loyds of London?
