New York AG seeks to dissolve NRA in lawsuit accusing leaders of self-dealing, causing $64 million in losses
New York Attorney General Letitia James was set to announce Thursday that the state is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association in a lawsuit that accuses the leadership of the flagging nonprofit of diverting millions of dollars for their own personal use.
According to the lawsuit, the senior leadership of the NRA squandered millions in donations on personal trips, private jets and expensive meals. The failure to lawfully manage the organization’s funds contributed to losses of $64 million over three years, the suit says.
James is asking the court to dissolve the NRA and require each of the current and former executives named in the suit to pay full restitution. The suit argues that the four executives, including CEO Wayne LaPierre, shouldn’t be permitted to ever again serve on the board of a New York charity.
The suit continues a long-running battle between the state and the gun-rights group, which has been chartered in New York since 1871. James, who is a Democrat, threatened to investigate the NRA’s nonprofit status during her campaign for attorney general and likened the group in 2018 to a “terrorist organization.”

While I absolutely believe this is true, Letitia can go F herself.
She’s a little after the fact isn’t she? The NRA acknowledged these problems, and took steps to correct them. What does she think she’s going to do to an organization that has committed itself to remedy the problems they realized had occurred?
I wish she would go after the Clinton Foundation with this kind of resolve. That might actually make a difference in this world.
I’d really rather see GOAL/ NSSF/JPFO/ SAF or ANY of the other 2A groups take over as the “lead” from NRA.
IMO they are just way too squishy, go a long to get along and cave at the slightest push back.
As a gun-toting NRA member, I will write the biggest check I can afford today in light of this announcement.
OK, I will grant you that LaPierre probably took some liberties with NRA money, but this guy built the NRA into the powerhouse 2nd Amendment lobby. This whole thing should be an intra-NRA matter. I’ve had enough of these angry, black female prosecutors abusing their positions.

So where’s the lawsuit to dissolve the Clinton Foundation ... hmmmm? They’ve been in violation of their non-profit charter for decades.
This is the same old tactic the left has been using for decades: litigate your powerful enemies away. Fortunately the NRA can handle it.
Somebody needs to investigate her personal use of taxpayer money.
Reconstitute with a new Board and rename it “Black Guns Matter”.

It doesn’t matter what the New York AG does. We aren’t giving up our guns, and many of us will stand in between them and Trump. Take your best shot. See what it gets you.
When they go after the Clinton Foundation for money laundering they will begin to develop some credibility.
NY AG Letitia James could win an Oscar for her performance because she is really hamming it up.
