Beshear says state considering 10 p.m. curfew for bars, restaurants to curb spread of COVID-19

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the state is considering steps including a 10 p.m. curfew for bars and restaurants to further stop the spread of COVID-19.

Beshear said that he believes cases in Kentucky are plateauing, but said he is considering other mitigation steps, such as a strictly enforced seat rule for bars.

The governor said that if people comply with the mask mandate and physical distancing, they can attend bars and restaurants — but they cannot leave those establishments and then head to private parties with lots of people.

Beshear said other states have implemented curfews, and he is considering one, too, but had not made a decision yet.

The state recorded another 546 COVID-19 infections Wednesday, but Beshear said data indicate that face coverings have averted a spike that other states have experienced.

The number of cases in the last three days was down about 100 compared to the Monday through Wednesday period of last week, the governor said.

"The trajectory that we were ... on was terrifying," Beshear said.

Of the new cases, 104 came from Jefferson County, the governor said.

The state's positivity rate, a seven-day average of the share of tests that come back positive, was 5.51% Wednesday. Health officials recommend a rate of no more than 5% before mitigation efforts, such as restrictions on restaurants, should be relaxed.

How would this make a difference either way?

Jefferson County is a hot spot for the SJW demonstrations / riots ... that couldn't possibly have anything to do with a spike in cases there, could it?

Covid knows what time it is, and is especially active after 10PM!

Actually, they’re trying to stop the spread of Trump.

Dewine ordered this 10 o’clock limit in Ohio. Everyone laughed— did he think people couldn’t get drunk before 10 pm?

Wow! They've got some very specific data on hand there. Wonder how they got ahold of it.

But most of the riots take place after 10PM. Of course they don’t get together afterwards in large groups cause Gramma doesn’t allow guests in the basement.

The spike in cases is still so small as to be anecdotal, AND we are on the back side of it.

Same with deaths. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/kentucky/

It’s kinda comical here in the part of KY I live in. Our county has zero deaths. When you go into lowe’s, there is a sign at the front that says the governor requires masks, yet I don’t wear one and a lot of people are not wearing them. Nobody cares.

You will never reach a point of zero infections. The best case would be for everyone to catch the bug and let their immune system develop antibodies. Just like you have for the cold, flu, chicken pox, mumps, etc...

The concern is around people becoming intoxicated, which happens more often later in the evening. Once inhibitions have been lowered by intoxicants, things like social distancing go out the window. Not saying that a 10pm curfew will have any actual impact on the spread, but that’s the basic idea behind it.

Yesterday Trump began to hint that he was going to stop saying that ALL of the governors were doing a great job.

And more pleased I could not be.

‘...yet I don’t wear one and a lot of people are not wearing them. Nobody cares.’

yeah, well, bully for you guys; where I am (northern portion of Lancaster Co. PA) if so much as a quarter of your nostril is visible, you are accosted and informed accordingly, with the attendant dismissive look of contempt...

Masks are useless and I proved it today. I am working in some very dusty, dirty conditions. I tried to use the standard surgical mask and started sneezing badly. Nose streaming.

Went to an N95 with the same result.

I had to use my much hated respirator, uncomfortable and hot, but I had no further problems breathing in dust.

If the surgical masks do not filter out dust, they definitely do not filter out tiny viruses.

he ‘began to hint that he was going to’...in other words, he’s getting ready to get ready...
