After nearly 100 years, Eskimo Pie ice cream will get a new name.
"We are committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality, and recognize the term is derogatory," Elizabell Marquez, head of marketing for parent company Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, told CNN in a statement.
The chocolate-covered vanilla ice cream bar joins brands such as Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben's in overhauling long-used names and marketing strategies considered racially offensive...
The name "Eskimo" is commonly used in Alaska to refer to Inuit and Yupik people, according to the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska. "This name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean 'eater of raw meat.'"

The left will have conniptions when they find out what “Corpus Christi” means.

Esquimaux
A name derived from esquimantsic, in the Albinaquis language, eaters of raw flesh. Many tribes in the Arctic regions are still ignorant of the art of cookery.

Simple choice at hand. Don’t buy anything from Dreyer’s. If they want to engage in this Marxist bullschiff, then I won’t spend a dime on their products. These commies need to go hungry.

From Wikipedia: Etymologically speaking, there exists a scientific consensus that the word Eskimo comes from the Innu-aimun (Montagnais) word ayas̆kimew meaning "a person who laces a snowshoe" and is related to "husky" (a breed of dog), and it does not have a pejorative meaning in origin. In Canada and Greenland, the term "Eskimo" is predominantly seen as offensive or "non-preferred", and has been widely replaced by the term "Inuit" or terms specific to a particular group or community. This has resulted in a trend whereby some Canadians and Americans believe that they should not use the word "Eskimo", and use the classifier and typical Canadian word "Inuit" instead, even for Yupik (non-Inuit) people. Some people still believe that Eskimo translates to "eater of raw meat", which may be seen, or used, in a pejorative way. The word has been cited by some authors as being used by colonizers in the process of committing cultural genocide.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream will die a slow, self-inflicted death and they certainly deserve it.

I agree with you. My reason for posting this story was not to cue the usual “what word will they ban next” discussion, but rather to point out something a bit more subtle (maybe too subtle) which is that the word said to be racist because it “was used” by “others” to describe Inuits. I suspected that something was hiding in the passive sense and sure enough when I checked it turns out to be a word that one group of Native Americans gave to another group of Native Americans.
To: Gritty
Pretty sure the same company calls their ice cream Edy’s on the east coast for some reason. Won’t be buying any anymore.

About the same poor decision when M & M’s decided not to allow their product to be eaten by ET in the movie. In the book, it was M & M’s. They probably fired that VP also. Reese’s got billions of dollars of free advertising.

Get woke, go broke. Now they will have to start from scratch rebuilding what was a 100 year old brand, one of the best known in America.
