Pretty areas around Here tVA dams
No, they never fired up Bellefonte. Even have toyed with selling it. But I don’t see it as a feasible idea, especially when a combined cycle gas-fired plant can operate so cheaply, and cost 1/6 of the cost of a similar sized nuclear unit.
Southern Company is in the process of constructing 2 new nuclear units at its Vogtle nuclear plant in eastern Georgia. It’s expensive, but the cost will be amortized over 40-50 year life of the plant.
I'm sure he can find someone willing to be CEO for $500k.
If the person's any good, however, they won't be available because any of the other utilities in the country will be willing to pay them a lot more.
Actually, the contract I did was teaching Microsoft Azure courses!
Ha! And I was picturing you installing new flooring and “cubicles”. :)
Yep...TVA created some beautiful lakes...But, I wish they had left the Little T alone and not built Tellico Dam...The Little Tennessee River had some really big Brown Trout....
Thanks! We like it here. We have almost 50 acres in this valley and have been here for over 30 years. Peaceful.
I have watched the wires coming from the pole to the house swing in a hard wind and it flickers off and on then sometimes. That’s why I mentioned the connection. One day a truck hauling a tractor on a flatbed trailer came by and was high enough to grab the line and pull it off. They came out and put it higher but it still flickers in high winds.
Most of the vehicles here that hit the poles do it in some of our hairpin curves. Lots and lots of hills and curves here. It’s usually kids going too fast in the rain. One set of curves is so bad the County finally put down some rumble strips to keep them out of the neighbor’s garden. One pole was hit so many times that they moved the pole to the other side of the road.
No way they can trim all the trees back and they end up on the road a lot.
Living here is worth it though. We keep a generator for when it’s off too long for the freezer. I get more annoyed at the flickering that makes me restart everything than I do the full outages. The worst part about that is when it goes off in summer and it’s 100 degrees outside. Our winters are mild but the summers will kill you.
why hasn’t the TVA yet been privatized?
