The nastiest Republican primary in the country
MSN, from Politico ^ | July 29, 2020 | Alex Thompson, James Arkin

So much for Southern hospitality.

This fall, Tennessee will say goodbye to retiring Sen. Lamar Alexander, one of the last of the genteel Republican moderates in the chamber. And the race to replace him has turned into perhaps the ugliest Republican primary in the country — with spurious super PAC attacks, Mitt Romney being invoked as a slur and President Donald Trump lining up on opposite sides as Sen. Ted Cruz.

I’m getting the impression that a lot of Sethi’s supporters really hate Hagerty. So if Hagerty wins, will they vote for the Democrat or just not vote? I don’t know if there is a danger the other way, of Hagerty voters refusing to vote for Sethi if Sethi wins. That’s the problem with a bitter primary—it could result in the other party winning. Normally the Republican nominee should win easily in a Tennessee Senate race. Even a popular ex-governor like Bredesen lost badly to Marsha Blackburn.

Forget McCain, this dude gave 1000 bucks to Al Gore in 1999, WTF is that about? Gave the same amount to Bush but not until the day before the election(?!).

When asked about it in an email a Haggerty press flack said ‘Ummmm TRUMP IS FOR BILL!!!!”

I'm thinking Pres. Trump gets his "endorsement" advice from Mitch McConnell so he can keep on getting his choices of judges through the Senate.

If that's not the case, I have no idea which RINO is telling him which RINO wannabe to endorse.

Knowing it used to be Gen. Kelly his former Chief of Staff but since he's been dispatched and replaced by Mark Meadows, my thinking it would change as I understood Meadows wouldn't be picking every RINO candidate running!

I'm smelling betrayal somewhere along the line.

I do wish I knew who is behind all of Trump's bad picks, and many truly are bad as many of these candidates didn't stand behind Trump and will stab him in the back should they all get elected and the President reelected!

The “nasty” part of the race is coming from Establican Hagerty. Sethi is generally running a positive campaign focused on conservative issues. Hagerty’s campaign can be summarized as “Vote for me because I am entitled to win and because McConnell secured Trump’s endorsements-for-judges deal.”

DailyRollCall.com has continued to provide extensive documentation regarding Establican Hagerty’s anti-conservative record. Based on his history, a Senator Hagerty may well make Lamar look like Calvin Coolidge.

I voted for Sethi with the hope he will do as he say. With Hagerty, I assumed he would do as he has done.

Good riddance.

“I wish President Trump had stayed out of this one”

Maybe Trump chimed in too early, endorsing Hagerty before all candidates were in place. He may have regrets now; I don’t know. I wonder if he wishes he could rescind that endorsement.

In any case, all of us are able to think for ourselves, so won’t blindly vote for Trump’s endorsement.

I’m leaning toward Manny myself...what’s the deal with his support of Obamacare?

Sethi strongly opposes Obamacare. From Sethi's website:

"As a doctor, I know firsthand the huge problems with Obamacare. I’m the only candidate in this race who has read the entire bill and understands it. We need less government involvement in our healthcare, not more. Working with President Trump, I’ll fight to repeal and replace it, without backing down. I oppose government in our healthcare, I oppose single-payer, and I oppose universal healthcare. Period

"The fundamentals of a health care system must be based on a free market solution that allows competition across state lines. We must focus on access, quality, and transparency."

Some of the context for this and other points can be found in this article:

His name is “Lamar!” - always include the exclamation point because Lamar! is so freaking exciting.

Most don't "hate" Hagerty. Most will vote for Hagerty, just like they voted for Corker and Alexander. But they won't do it enthusiastically. The numbers will be down some because of the ads (among other things), but probably not enough to throw the general election to a relatively unknown Democrat in Tennessee.

Hagerty's ads have been bitter with malice as well as disingenuous and less than fully truthful. Sethi's ads have been more upbeat, positive, and truthful. If Sethi wins, Hagerty's supporters shouldn't be opposed to supporting him, unless they are establishment Republicans who would rather have a Democrat than a conservative.

Hagerty is running a commercial showing Manny supported it.
It doesn’t look good for Manny - maybe it’s something his profession required of him at the time; I don’t know. Otherwise Manny does impress me.

If I remember correctly, the commercial is simply Sethi telling professionals during one of his lectures that, as professionals with their patients, they should call it the Affordable Care Act rather than Obamacare so as to avoid political overtones. I don’t think that indicated that he liked Obamacare.

Pharaoh Phil’s alleged popularity was a mile wide and an inch deep. The Demonrats aren’t running a viable candidate this time.

Hagerty is a total RINO establishment (and Gore-supporting) fraud who bamboozled President Trump into an endorsement. He thought he would be coronated and cruise to victory without having to campaign. He was shocked when someone popped up to interrupt his plans. He’s too scared to even debate Sethi. He’s been responsible for some of the most vicious campaign ads in recent TN history in lieu of actually facing Dr. Sethi.

And what .

Manny campaign manager openly supports Biden?
He is a Kaisch puppet .
No good choices .
A never trumper campaign manager and staff is not a great sign .
Keep avoiding the elephant in the room .

You keep talking about campaign managers. I’m talking about THE CANDIDATE. But since you’re so interested in managers and campaign staff, Hagerty was NATIONAL FINANCE CHAIRMAN for Willard the Rat and his fake ringer campaign.

Hagerty HIMSELF was giving money to corrupt, treasonous (and the other ringer for Zero in 2008) McQueeg in 2016 - even as McQueeg was plotting to take out Trump by any means necessary.

This guy has more red flags than a Communist parade.

They showed Hagerty on stage with Cotton. He looked like he was hiding behind him, since he doesn’t have the guts to debate Sethi, he has to have everyone else fight his battles. How like a RINO.

BREAKING NEWS from Politico media...

Politico: Tennessee’s Senate primary ‘nastiest’ in nation

Published July 29, 2020 | By Erik Schelzig

“Tennessee’s Republican primary for the U.S Senate between Bill Hagerty and Manny Sethi is the “nastiest” in the nation, according to a report by Politico.”

Here’s an excerpt:

“Hagerty largely ignored Sethi most of the race — seemingly confident of his lead which his internal polls had at 17 points — until earlier this month, when he abruptly went on the offensive. His recent campaign speeches and interviews are chock-full of attack lines. His campaign has dubiously accused Sethi of donating money to a group “bankrolling these rioters” in an ad with a wounded veteran telling voters that Sethi can’t be trusted to defend the flag.

And Hagerty has been repeatedly mispronouncing Sethi’s name as “Set-ee” instead of “Seth-ee” a year into the race, even in response to reporter questions with the correct pronunciation. Hagerty told POLITICO it was inadvertent, and he didn’t know which pronunciation Sethi, the son of Indian immigrants, prefers.

“Bill Hagerty is Thurston Howell III without the charm,” said Jordan Gehrke, Sethi’s senior strategist, comparing Hagerty to the out-of-touch millionaire in the ’70s-era sitcom “Gilligan’s Island.” “He’s desperate. He should be.”

“On mispronouncing Sethi’s last name on the stump, Hagerty says the slight is unintentional.

“I’m just not sure what his preferred pronunciation is, but there’s nothing underlying it,” Hagerty said.”

ZACK WAMP https://www.facebook.com/bill.gaines.14/posts/10216283925443119?hc_location=ufi

Now I understand why Mr. Hagerty is losing his mind... because he has taken out loans in excess of $6.5 MILLION... that’s a huge chunk of change to buy an election, just to lose it. You can’t drain the swamp if you helped build it, Mr. Hagerty!

And added bonus... the definition of a bigot: someone who behaves like this because someone is different than they are- “And Hagerty has been repeatedly mispronouncing Sethi’s name as “Set-ee” instead of “Seth-ee” a year into the race, even in response to reporter questions with the correct pronunciation. Hagerty told POLITICO it was inadvertent, and he didn’t know which pronunciation Sethi, the son of Indian immigrants, prefers.”

And those who support such a person. Shame on you Tom Cotton and your PAC, and all the other establishment lovers!
