Death WITH COVID or death FROM COVID? Which is it?

The CDC has been explicit that you must show “the underlying cause of death, which is “(a) the disease or injury which initiated the train of morbid events leading directly to death or (b) the circumstances of the accident or violence which produced the fatal injury”, and if you want to say that’s COVID-19, you must show that “the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty”.
In other words, if you want to say on a death certificate that somebody died of COVID-19, you have to be able to demonstrate within a reasonable degree of certainty that COVID-19 initiated the train of events that resulted in the death of the person. There may be some mistakes happening here or there, but to think there are over 150,000 falsified death certificates floating around is absurd, considering the people doing that would be risking some potentially serious legal consequences for every single instance of it.
