Melanie was annoying, but Olivia de Havilland did an amazing job with the part.
As Melanie, she was a slave owner, thus all of her works should be destroyed, her name erased from history, and any academy awards given to her be revoked and returned. (I’m posting this as sarcasm, but am sure that some “BLM” protester will make it their screed.)

Sorry, but even back then Hollywood was a cesspool in comparison with the rest of America. Yes, there were many ladies and gentlemen involved. Miss de Havilland and Jimmy Stewart come to mind. But there’s a reason why before the twentieth century, when “entertainment” became an actual industry with global mass appeal, enormous profits, and huge cultural influence, that actors and actresses were viewed as socially on a par with whores and carnival freaks. With the cooperation of a press riding the gravy train with them, the studios were able to hide most of the slime.
This nonsense with the cancel culture probably didn’t help.
She was a rare gift. A great actress, a class act, and a very beautiful woman.
Wow. So sorry to here this. Olivia de Haviland was a great actress. She was the last actor of any real talent from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Rampant affairs, alcoholism, drug use, pedophilia, homosexuality, abortions, physical abuse, and I’m sure the list goes on. Studios did everything they could to manage their employees and to craft and manage their images. But when people have access to lots of money, it can sometimes be too much for certain people to avoid self abuse and over indulgence.
