Did they really contest 1980 and 1988? I think 2004 was also clear enough, though there may have been some grumbling.

And yes, I read the headline and glanced at the excerpt only.

Dems have not conceded a Presidential Election on the same day since 1988 ...

I saw a book in a bookstore once by RFK, Jr. He claimed that Bush stole the 2004 election. Kerry would have won if he had carried Ohio—Kennedy claimed that the Republicans suppressed the Democrat vote in Ohio. (Bush’s margin in Ohio was about the same as JFK’s national margin over Nixon in 1960.) There were long waits to vote in a small town in Ohio, which proved that the Republicans stole the election.
