Depending on soil composition, I’m told that electrical charges, such as lightening, can travel 100 miles in the ground. Sand is a conductor, for example.

None. It’s about the transformers and, likely, generating equipment.

Its not the power lines, its the transformers and generators both of which are not made in the US, as far as I know, but in Norway; they are usually years back ordered. Estimate of replacing the electrical generating capacity after such an attack is years, years with no power for most people and places
