There’s a reason all the bases they want to rename are in the South but don’t waste the electrons on idiots.

Robert E Lee and Edmund Kirby Smith, who had no known party affiliation. None of the statues were of Republicans. The very idea of the Republican Party was antithetical to the Confederacy.

When will the purification squad go after Robert “Kleagle” Byrd (D-KKK)?

I hate it when they pull the “but the parties switched places” crap. Like they want to claim credit for Republican Abraham Lincoln, and stick us with Democrat Robert Byrd (and all the others) because, you know, the parties switched places, so black is white and ignorance is strength.

“Who were the non-Democrats?”
Probably just more reliable Democrat votes, who registered as Independents or something, due to quirks in their districts, or their personalities.
Like Bernie Sanders.

“The bill calls for $5 million to be appropriated for the removal.” The Antifa method may be more econonmically efficient.

Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and E. K. Smith. They were not politicians, they never run for any political office. As purely military men, they both apparently followed the non-partisan traditions of the military. I would bet, they voted Democratic though!

The irony is that the Dems are doing now what they did 100, 150 years ago. Stirring up race hatred to win votes. In the 1800s and early 1900s (all the way up to about 1970), they stirred up white hatred of blacks. Then they switched around and are stirring up black hatred of whites. The Dems put up those statues as political symbols as part of that strategy. Now they want to tear them down as part of the strategy. The Democrats always have been and always will be the Party of Race Hatred.

I suppose it isn’t really about Party, it’s about removing history, erasing the good things the status stood for.

And they all voted in every election.
