Maybe some of the young adults who are spending their time in “peaceful protest” could volunteer to mentor a young person who does not have anyone in the home to tutor them or even to make sure they can find the website they need. HA.

Most of these folks have internet.

YouTube is chock-full of courses for all age ranges. At least it’s something.

But as Biden told us, poor kids are just as bright as white kids.

homeschooling costs very little. All it needs is one committed parent. There are scores of online courses, local co-ops, parent groups, etc…

Its time to flee the union-controlled, politicized, bureaucratic, time-wasting government schools.

There was a particular math “teacher” at one of my kid’s schools. It was common knowledge among the parents that if your kid had the misfortune of drawing that teacher you needed to hire a tutor.

Yes -- and that is what I would do if I had children.

But the article is correct, I think.

I live in a very poor area of rural upstate NY. Many of the parents do not have the education themselves nor, in a lot of cases, the discipline necessary for home schooling.

This prolonged school shutdown will have ramifications for an entire generation of kids.

Lower Income Families Struggle with Greater Learning Loss Amid School Closures

Not to be heartless, but of course they do. Lower-income families likely struggle more with just about everything in life. They eat worse food, have worse homes, drive wrose cars, get worse medical treatment...the list is endless. It’s a big reason to try not be a ‘lower-income family/person. Richer people tend to get nicer stuff.

Now there can, but not always is, a chicken and egg question here. Lower-income families tend to be less well educated. If a family doesn’t value education/reading, etc. and doesn’t model that at home, their kids are less likely to be willing, eager students. If the parents don’t force their kids to do on-line lessons, the kids, will of course, fall further behind.

This is not to say that ‘poor kids can’t be a smart as white kids’ (in the words of dem candidate for President, Joe Biden), some of my best students came from very poor backgrounds, but had the will and the parental support to overcome.

Just another excuse for Democrats to demand more money for schools.

It is all about the children...

Lower Income Families Struggle

Stop right there; the rest of the headline is fill in the blank. As a wise man once said, "The poor will always be with you".

You don’t need tax money for that....

With a few, “if..... then...…” scenarios to support the theory, it would be very easy to conclude that NOT having in-person school is extremely RACIST.

The liberals and MSM are hoping that no one accidentally stumbles on that reality, any time soon.

When we homeschooled our kids we were in the low to mid income group.

It takes very little money.

It paid off very well.

I went to a one room school, all but one family in our town would be way below what is considered "poverty" today.

One of the better ways to really learn something is to teach it.

In our one room school, older kids helped teach younger ones.

Just because a parent doesn't know a subject well enough to teach it, with the right books, they will learn or re-learn along with their kids, so everybody benefits.

Yup. Many private schools offer some kind of financial aid. Not sure on elementary, but my high school (Jesuit Dallas) has a good program, something like 75% or more of students receive some kind of financial aid. My dad made right around six figures (maybe just below way back when), but I was the eldest of six kids. My tuition was ~50% grant, a good $4475 I believe. All I had to do was write a letter thanking whichever benefactor name I drew, and then work 100 hours a year ($525 worth) at the school. Ushering plays, assisting grounds/maintenance, helping out the librarian, etc.

But to get in, you can;t just get grants and other aid. Your kid has to qualify, which means activities in elementary school, good grades, and so on. All of which depend on having parents who care and put effort into their kids. Reading books to them at night as kiddos.

Close the schools and you get another generation of semiliterates who are that much easier to control.

They wouldn’t if they would spend some money on books instead of tatoos and drugs.
